Reid Detmers is throwing a new splitter!
The Angels southpaw is transitioning pack into a starter and this development could be the key to his success. His fastball-slider combo was dominant last season and a new off-speed pitch is exactly what he needs to tackle RHH. Exciting!

Bubba Chandler was electric as he struck out 5 over 3.0 IP in his start today
My #14 prospect ended the 2025 season on a high note and is poised to be a key contributor for the Pirates this season. Sitting 99 with that kind of ride on his fastball is bonkers. Heβs so good!

Braxton Ashcraft leaned heavily on his sinker today as he is working on incorporating all his pitches into his workflow
The sophomore righty wields one of the best sliders in MLB (grade be damned!) and is one of my breakout picks for 2026..

As expected, Spencer Strider started to ramp up his velocity and is now matching his 2025 numbers. The shape of his fastball looks a sharper, but still lacks its previous elite ride. That will be a key aspect to follow throughout the Spring

Luis Perales made his Nationals debut!
It's no surprise that Washington was interested in Perales from the Red Sox this winter. His fastball sat at 100 MPH with elite ride which pairs with a strong pair of cutters and sliders. There is some relief risk, but the stuff is nasty!

Dustin May is throwing his old curveball again!
The last time May regularly used his curveball was in his rookie season with the Dodgers in 2019. The reintroduction of this pitch seems like a no-brainer given his elite ability to spin the ball. Perhaps a resurgence in 2026?

JesΓΊs Luzardo looked excellent in his Spring start today after he struck out 5 in 3.0 IP
The Phillies southpaw added a sweeper last season and the rest was history. It was on full display today and lines him up for another strong campaign in 2026

If you are going to pick a team, the Padres are one of the best bets. A lot of fun arms in that bullpen

My goal when I started TJStats was to make baseball analytics more fun and accessible for all. That is still the main driver in the work I do today and I am having more fun creating tools and content than ever before. Thank you for the support of my work. It means a lot to me! 2/

It is disappointing to see that a baseless tweet from over a year ago disparaging my work is still causing creators in the baseball sphere to view me as an enemy.. I have made a conscious effort to highlight bright individuals and inspire others to pursue their dream of working in baseball 1/

Roki Sasaki struggled with command today as he failed to record an out in the 1st before returning the 2nd
His fastball sat at 98 MPH, but a common issue of finding the zone persisted. Without a pitch for him to consistently earn strikes, Sasaki's splitter loses its efficacy

Kyle Harrison debuted a new changeup in his Brewers debut, and it looks excellent!
With 20β of vertical separation from his fastball, this new changeup could be a game changer for Harrison against RHH.. He will be a name to throughout the Spring!

George Klassen (#67 Prospect) tested out his changeup a lot today!
The hard-throwing righty is one of my favourite pitching prospects thanks to his dynamic fastball-slider combo and it is great to see him working on expanding his arsenal. He could be up early for LAA in 2026.

What exactly is the "Death Ball"? β οΈβ
YouTube video by Tread Athletics
This short video helps explain it. It is basically a harder curveball with minimal horzintal movement and moderate drop. Kind of like a gyro slider with more drop

I heard that he was sitting 95-96 MPH in his pens and he was making a concious effort to take it easier today. He topped out at 97 MPH, which is encouraging

Jonah Tong keeps on adjusting his arsenal this Spring! After debuting a lacklustre cutter earlier, Tong is now showing off an adjusted one. This shape is more distinct and doesn't blend as much with his fastball. He's also testing out a "deathball" like curve and a sinker!

Shane McClanahan made his debut!
McClanahan has not pitched in MLB since 2023 due to elbow and triceps injuries, but he is back now! The Rays southpaw averaged 94 MPH on his fastball and showed off his trio of secondaries. Hopefully he can find that high 90s heat as he ramps up

Brody Hopkins (#68 Prospect) saw his command get out of hand today, but the stuff looked fantastic. He sat in the upper 90s on his fastball with incredible ride which he supplemented with some nasty breaking balls. He has one of the highest ceilings of any pitching prospect
