Oh, Angelo...shit. what a loss
Ok so there's clearly another wave, maybe I'll become a bit more active here. Currently working on contemporary design aesthetics, driven half mad by all the blinking cursors I'm close to convinced HCI needs Cassirer and Flusser more than ever & dangerously close to thinking I should do that writing

Precisely.
this doesn't feel like the place, but --- i'll be joining TU/e (Eindhoven University of Technology) this summer as Assistant Professor ยปDesign Aesthetics for Intelligent Adaptive Systemsยซ and that is insane and i am absolutely chuffed๐ฎ๐

so, so, soooo much sloppy work in ostensibly "more-than-human" design. cripes.

Really enjoyed working on this piece for The Conversation with @entoptic.media โฆ exploring how the way we think about #genAI models arguably has some resonance with with free speech theconversation.com/ai-a-way-to-... โฆ which in turn is a great argument for responsible #AI licenses www.licenses.ai

The ยปHe Gets Usยซ ad, which aired during Super Bowl, made quite a buzz. Many pointed out that the images of people washing each other's feet looked suspiciously AI-generated. Meanwhile, the artist behind the series has spoken out, describing how each of these photographs took days to create

Norbert Weiner, concluding his famous "Cybernetics" book, by warning that STEM shouldn't replace the Humanities...
Wondering whether #HCI (particularly the design research community) is lacking a bit in its consideration of aesthetics (โ aesthetic)โthere seems to be little in-depth consideration over why artefacts take certain forms in contrast to methods that justify & evaluate artefacts functionally
And another thing, seen from the perpective of the Lumon designers the faux 70s/80s International Style of the Severed Floor is kind of amazing, like finding the eye of a storm for the severed in the form of a digestible, perfectly signifying sludge of corporate core
And the timeless forms of small and great oppression with occasional gardens of joy in both. Oh, Irving.
Really remarkable approach to shatter the supposed duality of the two worlds. 2/2
Exactly! What I find really interesting is that this does not only stick to the Severed Floor (where this logic is turned up) but also permeates the Outie World in a slightly more shbtle wa. The cars, the relative lack of tech, the barely cohesive living spaces, that guy Ricken (!) as a whole. 1/2
Iโm obsessed with the design on this showโฆnudging utilitarian ergonomics into the twilight zone is such a great move
Still thinking about this comic ... 250gr bag of coffee from the Yemeni Haraz Collective, roasted & ground by Atkinsons Lancaster
Shot of the coffee in a pour-over Hario filter, it has a light brown-golden colour somewhere between black earth and sand
View of the filter after third water pour, looking like puckered clay
The coffee in a mug with oatmilk, cloudy and caramel
I like my coffee (in the knowledge that people nerd much harder about it than I do) so having Atkinsons Coffee Roastery in Lancaster is a ridiculous treat.
This coffee they sourced from the Yemeni Haraz Collective does incredible things, and a little of the price goes to the Yemen UNICEF appeal.
The rampant corruption!
