#OnThisDay in 1963, the Avro Lincoln was retired after eighteen years service with the Royal Air Force when No. 151 Squadron, based at RAF Watton, relinquished its remaining examples. In total, 624 were built.

Flying Officer Reginald Peacock, who flew Blenheims with No. 235 Squadron, was the only ace on the type. He shot down three Bf 109s, one Ju 88 and a He 115.

He died on the 5th February 1943, when the Hudson he was a passenger in crashed. He was 25 years old.

The twin-engined Whitley entered service with the Royal Air Force in March 1937 and would serve with Bomber Command during the early years of the Second World War.
