We spent months reporting on problems at North London Collegiate School’s Singapore outpost – which former staff said is a far cry from its London namesake. They said bullying, misogyny, safeguarding lapses & a “bums on seats” mentality undermined the prestigious – & proudly feminist – NLCS brand.
The UK’s private schools are some of the most revered educational institutions in the world. Many are utilising their renown to open franchise schools overseas. But how easy is it to maintain the same standards thousands of miles away?

Several staff said Hands’ commented on the size of women’s breasts. Another said he told a story about a business associate masturbating in the bath.
They said he was volatile & unchallenged; “charming and charismatic” one moment, “harsh [and] domineering” the next.

We spoke to 25 former employees and business associates who worked with Hands between 2002 and 2023.
Together, they said he was a bully who raged and screamed at staff, humiliated underlings, and made sexually explicit comments.
Hands and Terra Firma deny the allegations.
