obviously this is just my own experience, but even my worst jobs were better than the stress of trying to manage the sheer labor/pay imbalance of trying to live off of art; i basically dont envy anybody trying to make it work
ppl in crochet spheres talk about how the labor/time/profit ratio makes it not worth it to do crochet on demand, and that's how i feel about doing basically all art on demand
my struggle with online com/missions is that they basically pay less than half of my state's already low minimum wage for me if i math out how long it takes me to do them ($100 comm = 1 week of work for me) and working basically any job for even 1 day a week pays me more, so it's never worth it
i gotta have Spontaneous Bree Time right now but i will watch something with you down the road when less swamped 🫡
that new evangelion short makes me think i need to watch the rebuild movies finally. i was a kawoshin yaoi fan as a teen but i think i'd appreciate asuka so much more the 2nd time around

there's a local coffee chain (as in 3 locations in my city only) that charges like 10 dollars for a coffee and a pastry, but the coffee AND pastries are straight up banger and that's a deadly fact for my wallet
i think ppl should have hobbies, but i get slightly pissed off when fan content enters conversations about supporting marginalized art, even as someone who does fanart for much-needed money, bc corporate media is an unsustainable monolith that chews up artists, not everything should be an ad for it
i just dont think engaging with fanfiction is on the same level as engaging with independent art if the express intent is to center marginalized creatives, bc fanfiction largely incentivizes caring about corporate work. it is advertising, whether it "wants" to be or not
disgruntled cynicism in online spaces that's often misfired at people within reach. however, i think there aren't nearly enough haters writing abt corporate media (bc the people who write for the mainstream are incentivized to praise backers), & Hipsters are actually a minority in actual subcultures
i think mainstream media criticism as a whole right now is too mired in profit motive to actually give meaningful thoughts about contemporary media as it releases, bc they don't have time to really spend with it, & that results in glowing praise of corporate slop in the mainstream & a kind of--
i basically think online art criticism reads anything by independent marginalized artists in bad faith and corporate productions in overly good faith when it should be reversed

i know i always say everything is better when people have more than 1 interest, but roleplay is especially better when people are interested in more than the roleplay setting, bc strict adherence to the designer's ideals for the setting really limits the interpretive nature of roleplay

it does suck having unpaid periods of time without work from a monetary standpoint, but from a personal standpoint, i fucking love having 1-2 whole weeks off every few months
