Windloft Workshop - Comms Open

The absolute WORST experience I had with this was first year physics in uni. Did the midterm exam, was SURE I understood every question, found it pretty easy. Well. Every single one of us in TWO whole blocks of that class (~300 students) failed that test! I still don’t grasp how I got it so wrong.

I love this too, except my delight comes from seeing how people who self-identify as ‘not artists’ make *distinctly* artistic choices, showing just how much they observe their world and attempt to replicate how they see it. So, you know, do the whole ‘artist’ thing.

So it turns out Blender isn’t as difficult to learn as I feared it might be. Not to say it’s *easy*, but having a more technical background like mine definitely makes it a smoother ride. I’m having fun practicing rigging!

NB: this is Blender for Mac, running on iPad via Jump Desktop to my Mac mini.

Yep, I work with it on iPad. Runs smooth on my iPad Air 5th gen (I think that’s my model). I think they started developing it on iPad. Also has an Android version. And they’ve announced a desktop version, though iPad is honestly my favoured way to use it.

Yes absolutely! NomadSculpt is super intuitive to use, it’s more of an “artist’s” tool in that regard. I’ve done a number of practice sculpts and playing around in the past year, and it’s SO much fun! Highly recommend DrugFreeDave on YT for his awesome instructional vids.

Been playing around with 3D sculpting in Nomad again. Absolutely love the process, and the software. Can’t wait to start using my own customized dragon refs for drawing, painting etc. Total game changer.

Christ, yes. Can also confirm that as someone who’s neurodivergent on the ADHD/Autism side of things, I get one hell of a blinding rage over the *slightest* injustices (I have meltdowns over it). Any win for anyone trodden upon, no matter how small, is a damn good day.

I didn’t even notice the permanent change! That sucks. I’m not left-handed, but it’s always cool to see a character who is, because it seems rare to depict it. I guess it’s not super character-defining, but it bothers me too that he’s a righty now. I’m just going to pretend otherwise Nintendo, tyvm.

Stylization is deceptively hard. I’m learning it myself but it’s definitely a skill that requires study and practice. I’m rarely happy with the results I get, and it’s only occasionally that I land on something that feels intentional and well executed. Usually done as a loose scribbling exercise.

Niddler from The Pirates of Dark Water. Or Snarf from the original Thundercats! Oohh, Nall from Lunar: The Silver Star. Too many to list, so many I can’t even remember.

Ohhh the parasaurolophus! My other childhood fave! These are great, I think they should do really well for you. They’d make an adorable repeating pattern on fabric or wrapping paper, too!

I LOVE that wine red! Like a beautiful merlot. And the colour and patterning on this suit in general. Great workmanship!
