Treat them like wounded animals, turning your back as to not intimidate them while placing crumbs in your open palm. Entice them with gentle, consistent nudges with restraint as to not scare them off

FINE! Make them describe how their backstory gets introduced, see how THEY like it! Give THEM the reigns and see if they can handle GMing for a spell

Give them more opportunities to enact change on the field other than slaying their more-deserving foes. Overload them with objectives so that every character is the hero of their own pathetic, selfish story

Lock your players in their seats after the session, interrogate them with fury and malice when they shall next taste freedom so you may strip it from them in that very moment. Leave scars on their calendar

Punish them for their audacity at attempting to subvert your narrative by giving them literally EXACTLY what they asked for, with all the unintended consequences they never considered
Anytime I mentioned the TTRPG Lancer, my comments would be filled with people going "Lancer mentioned!!!"
Then I'd mention Yuri and they'd go "Yuri mentioned!!!"
I thought this was a funny coincidence until I remembered something about those fanbases
