One of the Louisiana Bird groups on Facebook. I was following closely because the photos were so (grotesquely) beautiful and it was so close to New Orleans that several birders and photographers went to see it. And there was the back & forth about whether it was melanated or harmed. Very sad ending
The bird died about three days later and was determined by wildlife officials to be covered in a substance. Not melanated
