For what it's worth, huge hat-tip to Mellow Mushroom for their strawberry lemon-limeade. It's my new go-to for performance days when I need a little pep-me up. Makes me really happy.
Ahhhh...

βThe only love affair I have ever had was with music.β Maurice Ravel was born 151 years ago today. Here's my Gramophone cover story from last year's 150th celebrations!

Another part of my conversation with @lewispatzner.bsky.social of the Town Quartet about our April 4 lecture-concert in Berkeley.
Some of the pieces youβll hear at the concert have still never been recorded!
Such a joy to perform and to hear @classicalbeat.bsky.social βs talk about Anna beforehand.
Thank you, Antonio! You know what itβs like to give a neglected work light and life. π So honored. β€οΈ
So excited for this Saturday's performance which I believe will be the US premiere of Anna von Schaden's B-flat major piano concerto. Such a fabulous work. The second movement breaks my heart EVERY time!
And what an honor to be joined by the inspiring, amazing, @classicalbeat.bsky.social .
It turns out you also have to register for the pre-concert talk. Here's the link for that:

Clock is ticking until this performance I'm very excited about. I believe this will be the US premiere of Anna von Schaden's B-flat major piano concerto. Also thrilled that Anne Midgette
@classicalbeat.bsky.social will be there to give a pre-concert talk.
Saturday, February 28th - Virginia Tech
That worked. Thanks again!
Had a wonderful moment this past week with a student. A voice student, at the end of a coaching, asked if she could play piano for me. I said, "Of course!" She then played a composition she had written. I was stunned and so moved.
Gave me such a moment of hope and thankfulness. π₯°
Ahhhh! I'll give that one a try, thank you!
So excited to do a run-through of Anna von Schaden's piano concerto with my colleague at Radford this afternoon in preparation for a performance happening with orchestra in a few weeks.
Does anyone know if there's someplace to stream the movie from 2006 called the Page Turner?
I'm really excited about this new program I'm putting together. It'll feature works and correspondence by composers including Edvard Grieg, Agathe Backer-GrΓΈndahl, Marie JaΓ«ll, Franz Liszt, Germaine Tailleferre, Maurice Ravel, Felix Mendelssohn, and Delphine von Shauroth, among others.
@piargno84.bsky.social Lookie here! Iβm playing on this recital tonight and I made the connection to you! β€οΈ
I was nervous-excited to finally give a talk at Radford University to the students about rhythm, conducting, counting out loud and metronomes.
And if you're interested in me giving this presentation where you are or any other of my talks about practicing, let me know!

If you're a musician and want a glimpse into what I teach and preach about practicing, feel free to check out my slides for two presentations I've done this year for college music students. They're on my "Resources" page.

Dear composers, if a chord is a straightforward chord, say D major chord, please donβt notate it this way.
Oh how interesting! In doing some research for a new piano program I'm putting together I came across this recording of composer Ethel Smyth talking about meeting Johannes Brahms.

Yesterday I had an absolute blast sightread-performing a 2 piano version of Bruckner's 7th Symphony. Couldn't ask for better partners-in-crime than pianist Rick Masters and conductor Mathias Elmer.
We even had a cymbal crash in the second movement.

During this crazy time, when we're bombarded with unbelievable news at just about every moment, it might be nice if folks tweeting about a big game would include an emoji like π βΎ π β½ so that those of us checking in don't have a heart attack.
Just a thought. I'm going to go recover now.
We had such a fun time with our Brazen Bruckner sight reading of Brucknerβs 7th Symphony. So grateful to have another pianist and a fine conductor to do this with me.
I think I'm also going to try to livestream from my YouTube channel as well in case something doesn't work on the venue's end.

Yep! I'll post it as soon as I have the link.
Stunning blood red and orange sunset over the Appalachians in southwest Virginia.
Just about every night we get a sunset like this in southwest Virginia. Amazing. π»

Well thatβs good, LOL. Always good to get the dates in the ballpark at least.
