Selectively ignore lines in git diff | LornaJane I have a things-as-code project that outputs mostly text-based formats, but a lot of them. To keep an eye on consistency, I rebuild all the outputs and dump them into a local git repository so I can very easily diff to spot any changes - which was fine until we added a build timestamp, so every file

I've been using git so long but somehow missed the -I (uppercase "i") option to ignore lines matching something. Blogged it so I'll remember how to do it next time I need it #thatsWhatBlogsAreFor

A brief reprieve from the US-Israel-Iran war news to share some photos from Lviv, because the western Ukrainian city was absolutely glorious today, on this first day of spring. Signs point to the long, horrible winter and freezing cold being over. The Russian attacks, however, are likely to continue

UN Human Rights Council Castigates The EHRC For Their Proposed Trans Exclusion The Council has released a statement severely criticising the EHRC for their desire to exclude trans people from single-sex spaces in the UK

I'm very aware of the radio silence from the big mainstream media outlets on this story.

Almost like they don't want to acknowledge it.

Do they fear it will humanise trans people?

I think I do this the other way around when I make my technical things pink and sparkly. I'm doing tech but there are no rules that we all have to use the primary colours configuration!

When D3 was released in February 2011, it transformed how we build data visualizations for the web and ushered in a new age of unbridled creativity in information design, data journalism, and beyond. Today, it remains the backbone of modern, interactive data viz.

AI Doesn’t Reduce Workβ€”It Intensifies It One of the promises of AI is that it can reduce workloads so employees can focus more on higher-value and more engaging tasks. But according to new research, AI tools don’t reduce work, they…

This is interesting - AI Doesn’t Reduce Workβ€”It Intensifies It - couple of things that stand out to me as problems organizations need to tackle 1) one person's productivity can be another's slop, and 2) cognitive overload hbr.org/2026/02/ai-d...

Put an end to being the β€œgo-to” engineerΒ  Being the individual people run to in a fire may feel great short-term, but the negative effects can pile up.

"Being the go-to engineer is a double-edged sword" I had some pause for thought reading this article from LeadDev leaddev.com/culture/put-... #linkTuesday

I recognise myself, but also got some strategies to try.

Git renames are not renames I consider myself pretty git-confident, I've worked with it a lot, taught it, been a git consultant, run engineering and various things-as-code teams. This week I had a spectactular git problem where…

I know git doesn't track renames. I know it constructs them from adds and deletes. I know my repo has lots of similar (not identical!) files ... I was still surprised that a bunch of directory renames produced phantom changes on merge!!

You can vibe code your way to a working prototype. You cannot vibe code or one-shot your way to a competitive product that works at scale. The hard part isn't writing code; it's the architectural supervision.

38. Ordinary people have no idea how much progress we’ve made. Tell people at parties that UK carbon emissions in 2023 were at their lowest level since 1879, for example. Most developed economies are now reducing carbon emissions without lowering quality of life.

Please - stop doing the screenshot no link thing on Bluesky. This platform does not punish you for posting a URL. You picked up the habit from Meta apps? Stop doing Mark Z's bidding. Link ESPECIALLY to authors, reporters, bloggers, etc. where you quote the work.
