I would very much like to believe that this is Docter taking a bullet for decisions that were made over his head, but either way, it’s very frustrating and extremely disappointing.

One thing I hate about all the defenses of Platner is the underlying, deeply dumb and destructive belief that it's all about casting. Wanted: Rugged bearded tell-it-like-it-is oysterman to appeal to the great anxious white center, the holy grail of politics. Further details not of immense concern. >
Look, I don't live in Maine. I don't really have a dog in Maine's Senate race. That said, even if a guy running for the U.S. Senate having a Nazi tattoo isn't disqualifying on its face, the fact that he has continually told bad, contradictory lies when confronted about it certainly is.
Seems like Bergman also sucks pretty bad, though, so my optimism remains tempered for now.
There's a line that Meryl Streep's Insect Queen uses to describe the main character that is—I'm told—a direct quote from a note that Bergman gave.
HOPPERS is very, very fun, and the fact that it was—apparently—a big fight to get it across the finish line speaks to the creative rot in the executive leadership at Disney. From what I've been told, Iger and Bergman *did not* get this movie and Pete Docter really had to go to bat for it.

LION KING will inevitably win this given the millennial bias of Bluesky, but if you ask anyone who worked on LION KING what the best Disney animated feature is, they would say PINOCCHIO, and they would be right.
Interesting! So it seems like the one that’s been at the Academy Museum was probably never in the parks.
No idea! I guess someone would have to compare dates of when it was on display at DCA/DLP/Academy Museum to see if there was ever any crossover.
I didn’t realize they’d made more than one, but one(?) has been on and off display a few times at the Academy Museum.
the gambling thing is so bad. lifetime social media dopamine addiction + free to play games normalizing frivolous phone spending + doom economy + personal phone behavior accepted as highly private by default, easy to hide if not. perfect storm for extremely widespread addiction
I sure wish the dumbest, meanest people weren't in charge of everything.

Title: "Unprepared for a Regrettable Luncheon! (With apologies to Kelly)" In the visual style of famed The Onion cartoonist Stan Kelly, Superintendent Chalmers is having lunch with Principal Skinner, who is menacingly placing a tray of hamburgers and fries upon the table, which greatly upsets Chalmers. Beneath one of the hamburgers is a wrapper bearing the text "Obviously grilled fast food". Chalmers [labelled as "Disappointed guests"]: "B-but... I thought we were having steamed CLAMS!!" Skinner [labelled as "Isometric exercising* odd fellows" - the asterisk refers to a footnote reading "Latest fad"]: "Oh, no, I made STEAMED HAMS™®! ©1996 Skinner family All rights reserved" From within the clouds of smoke billowing from Skinner's kitchen (wherein an American flag can be seen burning) three heavenly beings gaze upon the scene disapprovingly: A pig labelled "Actual hams", Krusty the clown, labelled "Hard-working patent-holders", and a teenaged fry-cook labelled "Ignored sandwich artists". Lady Liberty peeks in the door and sheds a sad tear at this woeful scene. Kelly's obligatory artist cameo has him disgruntledly commenting "Seymour-a bore-e-malice."
Steamed Hams but it's a Kelly comic
(Yup that's right I still make "Steamed Hams but..." memes)

"You can be a genius and be kind and one of those things does not have to come at the expense of the other in any way, shape or form."
I don’t know that this counts because sending it to streaming was less a COVID consideration than it was Chapek desperately trying to prop up Disney+, but I still believe TURNING RED should have been a monster hit that would have shifted Pixar’s whole trajectory these last few years.
I think it's notable that the two most straight-down-the-middle, STAR WARS fan service projects ("young Han Solo" and "Boba Fett's Back!") were both pretty significant flops, setting aside their relative merits.

The Academy Museum just dropped their spring film screenings schedule. They're doing a run of most of Kurosawa's films on 35mm, as well as Miyazaki films (DCPs).
When you were a kid, did you ever meet another kid who was clearly out of their mind, and incredibly troubled and destructive, who made you really uncomfortable to be around, and you just hoped that they would grow up to… Not be like that?
And then they grew up to be even worse?
The entire Democratic strategy debate — "moderate" or move left? fight or compromise? — is based on a misreading of data. Voters don't think Dems are too progressive; they think Dems are weak. The actual math on what to do about this isn't even close!
