Why have I never seen the music video before? Why???
Thinking about John Dewey's Distinction between Education and Training got a Fishbone Song Stuck in My Head,
the Ryan Randall story
A wise person tumbles a stone until smooth, makes a few choice cuts.
I foolishly chisel so many facets into it again that unless you zoom in, it appears as rough as the original stone.
The recall includes rice and dumpling products at Trader Joe's and Krogers.
After an investigation, it was found that the carrots used in the products were the likely source of the glass fragments.
No, the source was insufficient food safety procedures.
"The task of AI education, then, is not merely to teach technical competence, but to cultivate the political imagination and collective capacities necessary to contest and reshape technological power," write JanβPhilipp Siebold, Annemarie Witschas, and Rainer MΓΌhlhoff.
Oops, yet again learning the "you need to turn off media autoplay on each separate device, since BlueSky desperately wants you to Watch Other People's Misery so The Engagement Numbers Go Upβ’" lesson.
Anyways, that's as close as I'm going to get to the privacy / security discussions of the day.
If Big Worm's bank ends up telling the authorities that you wrote him a check, that's different than Big Worm himself telling the authorities that (or what!) you bought from him, right?
Arguably, Big Worm shouldn't even be accepting checks at allβ¦Β but he also sells perfectly legal stuff, sometimes.
It's possible to simultaneously maintain the meanings of words AND ALSO frame modest victories in ways that build momentum toward substantial ones.
If only this sort of advanced thought / word power were required for professional communicators, politicians, and journalists.
Can you imagine?β½??!!
It'd be amazing if everyone I know who's been so-called "fired" / "let go" / "downsized" were instead actually given a new position purpose-built for them, with accompanying continuing income.
Of course, exposing this vulnerability & corruption is a win.
But criminal prosecution will have teeth.
My book Radical Infrastructure came out last week! It goes deep into the political and economic roots of technological infrastructure to explain hype around various technical projects, and counters it with cases of people pushing back.

Lyke manye of your exes, the poeme *Beowulf* ys impossible to date.
Just the plain & simple "people have to request to follow you" feature is such a better paradigm!
I am convinced we are on the verge of the first "AI agent worm". This looks like the closest hint of it, though it isn't it quite itself: an attack on a PR agent that got it to set up to install openclaw with full access on 4k machines grith.ai/blog/clineje...
That uncomfortable photo of me at the Emmy Awards (ah, when will this orbit go away, lol) and an image of Death of the Author with the Libby awards logo
My novel DEATH OF THE AUTHOR has won the Libby Book Award (a.k.a. the Librarians Choice Award) for Best Science Fiction, π³π¬πΊπΈπ€π¬!

βHow has Tim Sheehy not yet been arrested for assault and hauled away as the deranged violent thug that we all saw brutalizing a marine veteran in the senate today?β asked one observer.
A lot of my quals prep chats with my PhD advisor lately have included threads along the lines of "I've realized it's a bit strange I didn't make room for Author A, B, C on my listsβthe project would be very different with them included".
Making mental schemas & knowing stakes is essential work!

_Geeky Pedagogy_ by @geekypedagogy.bsky.social offers a wonderfully "I understood that reference!" overview & critique of the scholarship of teaching and learning, especially useful for those of us who know we're nerds, introverts, &/or geeks.
Even if you're not a geek, the bibliography is robust!
Delightful coincidence that a scholar I mentioned in my OpenEdWeek talk yesterday (Mike Rose, whose work was part of my entry into an expanded, critical "open pedagogy") keeps cropping up as a citation in the first chapter of the book I started reading after the talk (Julia Molinari's great OA π).
Today's another great day to make sure you have "autoplay media" turned off in your settings on here, friends.
And no, the settings in the mobile app & your browser do not sync. You'll need to do it in both places, as I just learned.
It is absolutely wild to see this with what we know about the impact of Long COVID; the rise in women finally getting diagnosed with ADHD, autism or both; and greater understanding about "invisible" chronic conditions like POTS, EDS, Crohn's, and even juvenile diabetes.
- Farmer (mostly wheat, cows, & soy beans)
- Supply chain for Sears and/or the military
Bonus sorta-grandpa:
- No clue what he did before or after my badass southern Grandma served him with badass southern divorce papers, besides gifting the world with my Mom & Aunt. Honestly, we'd love to learn.
Someone should invent a man who benefits from kyriarchy and is also willing to recognize, learn, & apply patterns across multiple scenarios.
Tenured Academic: Actually it's about ethics in automated outputs journalism!
This just in:
After decades of misreading calendars & time, I remain a doofus who has difficulty reading calendars & time.
This happened yesterday. Hopefully there's gonna be a recording?
Looking forward to "Water is Still Life β Visualizing Native and Indigenous Resistance to Generative AI" with Marco Seiferle-Valencia (yes, he's that awesome librarian working up at U of Idaho), starting in about 10 minutes.
Registration's free & still open!
...nothing. Literally nothing. We already had this conversation when evopsych and data science tried to do "Big Data History" and we don't talk about it anymore for a reason. Guys. We're not idiots. Coding doesn't actually change every field every time it happens.
Convincing the AI Maximalists to down, breathe, and deeply consider whether they are reductively proposing purely technical "solutions" to complex sociological scenarios that might not even in fact be problems.
Difficulty level: Astronomical.
Wonderfulβthanks for letting me know, Meredith. I'm looking forward to reading this! Also really glad to hear that you also like Knowledge Commons!
