Anyway! I am officially in hardcore inventory prep mode for TFF!
There's definitely an appeal to disorders that can be easily (from the counselor's pov) treated. CBT and SSRIs and you're good to go in ten sessions. Which is valid work! But that's only barely the surface of the psych field
Honestly I think a lot of (esp early career) counselors just want to work with the simple ("""simple""") stuff like anxiety, depression, adhd, and maybe high-functioning autism
I know y'all come here for bondage gear, so I do appreciate you tolerating my occasional tirades about psychology and mental health, haha
I worked in the mental health field for years and no one ever taught me anything about personality disorders beyond "oh they're really hard to work with, you probably want to avoid them"
What the fuck is the point of being a counselor/therapist if you don't want to help the people who need help??
someone send me back to school for my masters so I can work with personality disorders pleeeeeease
That's a VERY clear and succinct description!!
Also sometimes he says things like "why do people in the comments keep calling me daddy" lmao
Anyway if you ever wanna learn about personality disorders (and other things), Psychology in Seattle is a fantastic podcast by a therapist and professor who specializes in treating people with personality disorders. He makes them very relatable and easy to understand

Yes!! And viewed through the lens of childhood trauma, the symptoms make perfect sense!!
I've heard about that subreddit, it's quite infamous :s
I wonder if, in 50 years from now, some or all of the cluster b disorders will be under the PTSD umbrella
I've been deep-diving about personality disorders for the past couple months (esp BPD) and, while I'm not at ALL an expert, I think the simplest way to conceptualize them is as a pervasive form of cPTSD from early childhood trauma. So many of the symptoms make perfect sense through that lens!
Fun fact! You don't need a disorder to be an abusive asshole, and most people with MH problems are far more likely to be victims than perpetrators! Including folks with "difficult" disorders like NPD, BPD, and psychosis! Fuck you, psych website!!
The stigma around Cluster B disorders pisses me off so much. You see a screener on a decently reputable psych site and at the end of it is paragraphs of warning about "keeping yourself safe from people with [disorder]" and "being harmed by people with [disorder]"
As they should be!
