"Bueller... Bueller...."
Every time I've had to use a Windows machine no good has come of it.
Getting three kidney stones in four weeks while single, unemployed, and uninsured, living thousands of miles away from family, certainly gave me a hell of a time figuring out "who can pick me up from the ER at 4am when I've been drugged into relative numbness?"
it's skeets and you know it
She did her job - uphold the "Seattle is Dying" narrative to make the case for more money for cops and keeping any reform of who provides services like 911 and crisis intervention from occurring.
Instead of trying to get the lege to lower the DUI limit, y'all might consider trying to get them to fund the tox lab so we could get dangerous drivers off the road in a matter of weeks or months, not years....
A simple survey rates the meaningfulness of the 200 most common American jobs. Inspired by @michaelhobbes.bsky.social @ @notalawyer.bsky.social's discussion. Results and voting available at the link.
Indiana is fine with unsupervised child labor, puppy mills, HIV transmission, and fentanyl epidemics.
Not cool: trans kids, needle exchanges, public universities that aren't mouthpieces of the state.
And my family still wishes I would move back.
That's a damn shame. My partner and another couple and I ate at Ad Hoc a few weeks ago and it was a great experience, but as the New Yorker caption contest always says, "Christ, what an asshole."
See a man about a dog
musician Gary Numan, born March 8, 1958, aged 68
actor Gary Oldman, born March 21, 1958, aged 67
Happy Gary Retrograde everyone!
The next two weeks are the only two weeks out of the year when Gary Numan is older than Gary Oldman
We wind up at the Burien Grocery Outlet b/c it's that or the MLK Blvd one and we like the former better.
And I'm probably gonna look for a reason to score an Arby's at some point.
New city council seems encouraging, at least.
That's the other kind of orange cat. Type 1: one brain cell, cheerful, sunny. Type 2: Master criminal, cheerful, probably has a copy of your keys hidden somewhere.
I have a Type 2.
The world we live in is a world where wars are not fought for any strategic power competition reasons at all, but one where they are fought specifically to generate imagery of suffering for sadistic perverts to get off to without any more thought put into why than that
This framing makes it sound like large empty buildings would collapse, when in fact what we're talking about is mass human suffering and death.
Iran has faced severe water shortages in recent years, and Gulf countries like Bahrain depend heavily on desalination technology β which turns seawater into drinking water β to sustain tens of millions of people. Desalination infrastructure is one of the most vulnerable military targets in the region because without it, the Gulfβs sprawling metropolises would effectively collapse.
Is it just me or is this a weird way to say "lots and lots of people would die horrible deaths"?
Thanks for all that you do!
I'd vote for both taco trucks AND slides! I am bisexual, after all.
I mean in many places they don't b/c Republican legislatures slashed taxes so much that there is no longer any money for maintenance and cities have sold land to private entities on the cheap?
That invisible unicorn is pink and you know it.
See every state sets their own rules. And in many DMVs, it's probably location to location, manager to manager.
You've swept up @bitterkarella.bsky.social in your "slurs" tag somehow, which seems... inaccurate. Unless the word "pussy" in their username is considered a slur? I would hope not.
"why did our hamster die?"
"if green beans weren't green what would we call them?"
"does all poop stink the same? How do you know?"
"do dogs get married? what if they marry someone they don't like?"
"what if oil wasn't made of dead dinosaurs?"
"why are adult things only for adults?"
Parenting.
Wow, this is almost as good as the "24 hours of Bob Ross" channel our TV OS has. I may have to make some strategic choices this evening.
No better example of the utterly fragmented media environment. Newsmaxx, OAN, and Fox will not run "Trump Hat SCANDAL Disrespects Troops!" on a chyron hundreds of times a day for the next month.
Three yellow daffodils with slightly darker yellow "cups" at the center are seen in a wooden garden bed against a lichen-encrusted wood fence. In front of them are the leaves of tulips, and in the background are leaves of some "oriental" poppies which will eventually flower.
Finally had time in the garden today for post-winter cleanup. A lot of mud, good fat worms, and my π€¬ nemesis, Spanish bluebells. My legs and my digging arm gave out after four hours but we'll have lots of tulips soon.
Tony did not suffer xenophobia or tribalism gladly, and did not take the usual Western "consume their output and forget about the people" approach. How cruel and sad he would find all this.
Every day, I turn on KEXP. Every day, some piece of music, new or familiar, hits me in a way that feels good. Every day, KEXP makes some small bit of goodness in my life. That's why I donate!
THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!
