as a jazz school attender, a crowd of incredible music nerds is, for better or worse, somewhere I feel very comfortable π

tonight I saw the Bad Plus with Chris Potter and Craig Taborn, and they played a whole set of American Quartet (Keith Jarrett et al) tunes. fuckin... insanely good. absurdly good. nice to be surrounded by jazz freaks again, it's been a while
Starting soon, weβll begin sharing automated power outage alerts on Toronto Hydroβs X account (formerly Twitter). Whenever an outage affects 500+ customers* for more than 10 minutes, youβll see it posted directly to our X feed in near real-time.
I guess this is a choice you can make in the year of our lord 2026
Brad Gushue tho
my old job did this and now I'm at a new job lol
I think if I died and found out that my descendants had used AI to write my eulogy I'd invent haunting from first principles
there should be a name for the specific point in a company's growth when they learn the very hard way that they need to stagger emails/push notifications. "how big is your company, pre-self-DDOS?"
Steal of 2
curler Brad Gushue about to deliver a stone
the last thing you see before you die
wolf parade is the hottest band in the country. there is a new gorillaz album in the window at sonic boom. enjoying my second run at the year 2004
anyway I'm two weeks from 37, and I sure hope I've got a lot of decades ahead to be annoyed about this π
god that is bleak. visual social media is truly fucking with us, nobody knows what any normal person of any age is supposed to look like
to me it is boring as fuck to cede your whole life to the lies of advertising. you have a wrinkle and your body needs more maintenance than it used to: inevitable! you stop being curious or interested in anything new: not fucking inevitable actually
god I am about to LOSE it about everyone I know complaining that they are too old at the advanced age of 30-something. for now I will reshare this perfect @angelicabastien.bsky.social column instead angelicabastien.substack.com/p/i-am-so-fu...
At your service! And happy belated birthday!!
lol they are SO ugly
really fantastic moment we're living in
I have been lowercase into curling for a long time, watched the Scotties every year forever etc, but now I am uppercase Into Curling, so... sorry for my upcoming social media content
Anyway I think everybody should watch this thanks bsky.app/profile/suss...
I got *really* into curling in the last year or so and the Brier is absolutely delivering, tbh
Vinyl record: The Futureheads self titled
2004 was a great year
Vinyl record that says Louis Andriessen De Staat Il Principe Il Duce Hoketus
Sticker on the back of the record that says Property of CBC Record Library, Toronto, Dec 29 1977
For university me, who played Hoketus in fourth year "avant garde music" chamber ensemble under Matt Brubeck, one of my favourite musical experiences of all time. That piece was hard AF and extremely fun to rehearse.
Vinyl record: Tower of Power - Live and in Living Color
For high school me, who was obsessed with Tower of Power and wanted to be Doc Kupka when she grew up
Bought some records today...
yeah, it's interesting to see the divide. imo the possible passivity of consumption has something to do with it. you can put on music, tv, movies in the background, so it's easier to devalue them as things you can blow through with little attention, aka not worth buying individually
that is the reference!
Sign on the wall of a TTC subway station reading "Station advisory - Entrance Escalator Out of Service" and below "The escalator has been converted for use as a staircase." There's a bunch more text below but my point is that it's exactly the Mitch Hedberg bit about "escalator temporarily stairs"
Sorry for the convenience.
if you got into curling during the Olympics, you may be pleased to learn there is always curling to watch... the Brier starts on Friday! www.curling.ca/2026brier/dr...
