My take on “Clean Code” is: sure, it’s fine, read it, but just make sure to read “A Philosophy of Software Design” right afterwards or in between.

Nice article by Colin. I’m of course biased but can’t avoid to think that we are addressing a lot of the issues described with Akka 3. Separated business logic, built in multi cloud support and high-level abstractions that hide and solve hard issues with DistSys. And it’s still fun to build stuff :D

Computer programs are fun to write, and well-written computer programs are fun to read. One of life's greatest pleasures can be the composition of a computer program that you know will be a pleasure for other people to read, and for yourself to read. Computer programs can also do useful work. One of life's greatest sources of satisfaction is the knowledge that something you have created is contributing to the progress or welfare of society. Some people even get paid for writing computer programs! Programming can therefore be triply rewarding on aesthetic, humanitarian, and economic grounds.

To be clear, we do have plans for scaling, we just kinda expected more than a couple days notice before getting blasted with a million new users a day.
The team is rapidly deploying fixes and new software to adapt. More servers in the mail.

I don't know either but I certainly didn't expect BlueSky to get this much traction within a 1 week or so. Very encouraging.

That Netflix crashed at the massive (though anticipated) load during the Tyson / Paul livestream shows just how hard it is to handle peak load.

Clearly, they prepared and should have had the infra to handle it: and still something went wrong.
