Join our team and play a crucial role in enhancing cyber security in #Guernsey. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who would like to help us deliver Guernsey Cyber Security Centre. Cyber security expertise not required - strong organisation and people skills are key: jcsc.je/latest/news/...

#cybermonday
To young people, #hacktivism can seem a low risk way of practicing or applying #cyber skills. But it isn't:

Thank you also to CSOonline for the award yesterday evening. It's much appreciated and a pleasure to be in such good company with so many capable and passionate people. #Cybersecurity is still an incredible field where no two roles, or people, are the same.
if we want to ensure everyone with an interest has a productive outlet for their talents, and understands the risks and personal impacts of taking the wrong path, we need to do more. Getting involved in the wrong things is too easily done.
through established paths. It's also an are of interest that is very hard for parents to support, monitor and guide on. Jersey Cyber Security Centre supports several work experience students each year, all of whom have made a substantial contribution to our work. But it is the tip of the iceberg.
We still have very low female participation in STEM subjects. many schools do not even offer Computing at 14-18 (GCSE and A level in UK and Jersey). We don't fully understand how to support cognitive diversity, which can lead to talented young people feeling isolated and challenged to engage.
We still need to improve our capability to give young people with an interest in cyber the right opportunities to progress that interest in appropriate way, limited readiness of the education community to support and guide those with a high technical aptitude with challenging work in school.
The takeaway for me from Lisa Forte's panel was that a lot of the discussion around responding to #hacktivism focusses on the symptoms rather than that cause. Indeed I think Sarb Sembhi was the only person to really talk about motivations when he mentioned climate activism.
Yesterday I attended CSO Online's CSO Security Summit in London, which was tracked into protection and culture tracks. One of the most interesting aspects of this was the focus on mental heath. As any incident responder (professional or accidental!) will know, these can be very stressful.
Update - JCSC is now at @jcsc.je
We recently surveyed local organisations' digital foundations - known as #DNS. This is what we are doing to improve ours, and what we think everyone should do.
#cybersecurity #JerseyCI #ChannelIslands
JCSC weren't using it, so registered an account and we are just waiting on our IT provider to edit the DNS (I don't have access - segregation of duties and all that good stuff). So for now we are @jerseycyber.bsky.social but this will change. It's not ideal but shouldn't take long.
Thanks that's really helpful - I was wondering if that would work. Might be an option for States
Members etc, will suggest.
JCSC issued written advice on friday to all public bodies and ALOs to verify, and shared @jerseyitguy.org's video how to guide to help them. There are some fake accounts impersonating gov at the moment so best to be careful until they are verified. I nearly shared the wrong one.
👋 That's right: JCSC is now on Bluesky!
You can still find us across our other accounts. And in person at our Operations Centre at 1 Seaton Place, between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
You can also find the latest advice and guidance via jcsc.je.
Currently we are on linkedin, facebook, x, instragram and bluesky. We use Publer publer.io/cyber to make it cost effective for us to use multiple social apps, which means you can follow us from where ever suits you best.
Locking down my x account was less a point of principle than a simple recognition that; if you become what you think, and you think what you read, you really don't want to read x. The bandwagon is rolling to bluesky, and I'm on it here: bsky.app/profile/matt.je.
I posted the other week about ITV's piece on JCSC, but I didn't share the actual segment. Fortunately ITV have posted it online so you can watch it here: www.itv.com/news/channel.... It takes a lot to make 3 minutes of television!
