True. Being greedy and cheap is what had him invite his grandchildren over to be the children testing group rather than, you know, pay people for this. Making him look more magnanimous.
It's just that his demeanor has been toned down for the visuals.

But that is book-Nedry and book-Hammond. They were forced to tone down the character of Hammond because how could we let beloved Richard Attenborough actually BE such a horrible person.
