#Zillathon2026 5: Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964)
The pantheon gains its most iconic villain (aside from Godzilla himself). Unfortunately, Ghidorah is underutilised, and the serious human story and wacky monster antics mesh poorly, but it's a highly entertaining watch regardless.

#Zillathon2026 Gaiden: Frankenstein Conquers the World (1965)
This film's premise of Nazis using Frankenstein's monster as a superweapon suggests high camp, and its plot of a misunderstood human monster suggests high drama, but it ends up unsatisfying on both fronts. Well-directed, but poorly paced.

I read a book. It was good. But not as hilarious as the blurb would have you believe.
The Humans. Matt Haig, 2013

A bit like 'Regarding Henry', only instead of Harrison Ford with a TBI, it's an alien sent to replace the woman's husband to prevent his mathematical breakthrough happening

Better than that, make it the badger from Bodger and Badger and make Mashed Potato Day a thing. Churchill would is memoralised enough I don't think he gives a shit tbh

Hercule Poirot's Silent Night. Sophie Hannah, 2023.
A decent enough detective story, but I feel I would have liked it more if the author used her own voice and creations instead of having to pretend to be Agatha Christie

Rooms for Vanishing. Stuart Nadler, 2025
A family is split apart by war. Only, they're split into different timelines, where each must suffer the loss of the others.
Probably a metaphor for Jewish generational trauma. Recommended

Nazis seize the heart of Frankenstein's Monster & ship it to Japan to create super soldiers. Years later, a wild boy is discovered. He grows to monstrous size...just big enough to fight random kaiju, Baragon.

You may laugh, but the Macbeths are a much better role model for a marriage than Romeo and Juliet. They discuss their problems (killing the king of Scotland), share their hobbies (killing the king of Scotland), and resolve their conflicts (by killing the king of Scotland).

#Zillathon2026 4: Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964)
A solid kaiju classic that boasts a generally strong story with good themes, likeable protagonists, entertaining villains, and a skilful blend of serious and camp. Mothra's futile self-sacrificial battle against Godzilla is as tragic as it is hilarious.

Another sci-fi film about humanity coming together to fight an alien threat. Unfortunately, in spite of gorgeous model work, this one falls flat thanks to dodgy pacing, batpoop insane science, and the baffling inclusion of a giant walrus... for all of 5 seconds.
