Insightful warning piece from @joost.blog - this is seismic. joost.blog/deafening-si... #WooCommerce representation being absent at the table puts them on the menu. And not just them, but everyone who depends on its ecosystem.

Red Hat, an American company, is now backing the growing wave of European governments and companies moving to digital sovereignty.
It's clear Automattic's business model is shifting toward trademark rent-seeking while it "defends" open source. FLOSS no longer needs outside detractors, we've got our own now, thanks.
Yes I was! Hotel is right in the area, very handy!

WordCamp Canada 2025 Speaker Brent Toderash: Managing Risk in the Software Supply Chain: Why the Future Will be Federated
Arrived in Ottawa for #WCEH2025! #WordPress Contributor Day tomorrow, then #WCEH! I'll be speaking on software supply chain security in a decentralized federated ecosystem. Looking forward to @scripting.com @ma.tt @evan.cosocial.ca.ap.brid.gy Jill Binder & others! canada.wordcamp.org/2025/about/s...
Overheard conspiracy theory of the day: CFL rule changes are a result of Trump wanting to attack (and annex) Canada from within, starting by Americanizing our football to be like the NFL.
Nobody goes the extra mile out of a passion for creating shareholder value.
I'll say this louder for those in the back: #WordPress "5 for the Future" **cannot** be reformed or rescued without tearing up its foundation: it exists for the wrong reasons. Stop trying to fix it--tear it down and re-evaluate completely. #wpdrama
The #wordpress ecosystem has lots of questions & potential pitfalls being pointed out for @fair.pm & @aspirepress.bsky.social but tbh, I haven't yet seen one that hasn't already been considered by those groups. Few people are even checking whether there is an answer already.
Some people did a thing for the #wordpress community coming out of the #wpdrama - I'm proud of the work they did and thankful for the privilege of working with this team! www.therepository.email/aspirepress-...

I installed the Fair Package Manager (@fairpm) on my personal site last night. I'm excited to say it worked flawlessly. A couple of plugins were updated from Fastly's servers, & a paid plugin updated from its servers as normal. I'm excited to see what else comes from this interesting development.
Matt: "Joost and Karim should go away and use open source to build a fork of WordPress with their ideals around governance."
Joost & Karim: **Build something in 6 months that match their ideas of governance**
Matt: "OMFG they built something in SECRET".

History always has a lesson.
Almost 10% of the entire Canadian electorate voted on the VERY FIRST DAY of advance polls because weβve spent the last 3 months watching what happens when you elect a populist windbag who vilifies journalists and shits all over peopleβs fundamental rights.
Thanks America. You really did us a solid.
Today in a meeting I asked, "Are you sure that's the right document? It only says 'FINAL' once in the file name."
The worst thing that's happened to email in the last decade is not spam, it's MS Office adding emoji responses to email.
This is a new hell, sending an email with nothing but a remote image of an emoji that's blocked in the mail client anyway.
I swear Microsoft is out to completely kill email.
Connecting some threads. 1975: Fred Brooks said adding more developers tends to make a late project even later. 2000: EDS Superbowl ad. 2025: it dawns on me that whoever came up with the idea for the ad must have been a project manager, as it depicts Brooks' Law. adage.com/videos/eds-c...
Are people finally waking up?
The real fight isnβt about bathrooms or drag queensβitβs about who holds power & at whose expense. Culture war is just a distraction, keeping working people too busy fighting each other rather than noticing whoβs actually robbing us blind: billionairesβnot each other!
