enjoyed this! Keep at it. Does Jarrett in the background help get the words flowing? π€
Oooh thatβs perfect. Thanks!
A quick follow-up to my first post. Picked a color palette too. lucashomer.leaflet.pub/3m5u5kbucx22b

Trying out @leaflet.pub - Will post there (and thus, here) as I read things and work on projects. lucashomer.leaflet.pub/3m5tmju25k22p
This is so great. Iβve been working through your book, and now Iβm on a little side quest reading your blog. Thanks for all your work and sharing a refreshingly clear and lighthearted approach to learning. Your stuff clicks with me and itβs a joy to read. Fitter. Happier. More productive π€£
I'm starting a Substack! I'll be writing illustrated posts on different software topics. The first series is going to be all about AWS networking. Here's the first post on VPCs www.ducktyped.org/p/why-is-it-...
The detention of Mahmoud Khalil puts all Americans fundamental rights at risk. And if you canβt see that because you oppose his politics, well thatβs exactly the reaction Trump and his cronies are counting on. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Finished getting our Maestro E2E tests going on @expo.dev EAS docs.expo.dev/build-refere...
We use GH Actions and EAS so all I had to do was create a small custom build config and a new build profile, so in GH before the `eas build --auto-submit` step, we have an `eas build --profile maestro` step
Never thought we could leverage our Zillow addiction into helping Angeleno tenants but I'm so here for it.

Would love to hear if you've done anything similar, what tools you chose, etc. Side projects are extra fun when they have real stakes and it feels great to give back. They're going to be pretty active these next four years, and they're going to be ready for growth in outreach and audience.
If I did it over again, I *might* have just gone with the in-house managed Ghost experience, but the difference is ultimately fairly negligible. Overall, I chose these tools because they're easy and fast to set up, and once I hand it off, they won't need me very much.
Considering the current site's registration and hosting and everything costs them about $35-40 per month, and does essentially nothing, it's pretty great to get SO much more with the modern set of tools and infra for around twice that.
A basic spreadsheet outlining the monthly expenses for all the digital infrastructure needed
We've set up a Stripe account, transferred domain registration from Namebright to Cloudflare, and created a self-hosted instance of Ghost + MySQL via Render. Email delivery with Mailgun. Forms with Formspree. Bought a Ghost theme that suits their needs and vibe. All in, it's about $70-80 per month.
If you look at the current site, it's a bit sparse, to say the least. It's time to change that. Some requirements: Email newsletter, online newsletter archive, some educational resources pages, online donations, contact and volunteer forms, and a way to sign up for the print newsletter too.
Outside of dev work, I spend a lot of my time running in the mountains surrounding Ojai where I live. We're blessed to have land trusts, conservation groups, etc. Keep Sespe Wild, was instrumental in getting protected status for the Sespe Wilderness. My mate runs it now, and I offered to help
Thread on a side project I'm doing to give back to my community. I'm bringing a local non-profit's digital presence from 1997 to 2024. It's not live yet, but soon! For now, check out a blast from the past, hosted on earthlink! sespewild.org
Okay itβs time for me to write a thread about bringing a local nonprofit from EarthLink-hosted one page site into 2024. With receipts!
@caseynewton.bsky.social big news over here

Solved our non-US SMS login issue! Twilio quietly switched off all non-US/Canada geo-enabling so we had to dig around the dashboard and find that page, then manually opt-in for each territory, and then opt out of those that werenβt labeled βhigh riskβ but they emailed us saying they actually were π₯²
This is what you are looking for, my beautiful babies.
this is our actual climate future staring us in the face - no consensus reality or shared source of authority, rampant conspiracies everywhere, more pressure to address made up nonsense than the underlying problem
conspiracy theories are fully mainstream now
The amount of conspiracy nonsense and general ignorance and misinformation around the fires and why the happen, what we/βtheyβ/points-at-someone should do/shouldβve doneβ¦ I cannot handle it. Go read Mike Davis. Go read Obi Kaufman. Stop prognosticating and show love and support to those affected.
