Most people have no reason to, but given a reason they have the ability to. That’s good ! Hopefully bluesky won’t give them a reason. But if they do, it won’t be like the twitter situation (like you said) because people will actually be able to leave without losing their data / community.
I read the article, I think you’re missing the point. Your concerns are valid but rather than seeing them as dead ends, you need to see the potential that is already here. You say “nobody is doing it” but that should be incentive to reduce friction. Many already are and it gets easier every day.
Your identity and data are also yours to do what you please. If someone wants to migrate from one PDS to another, they can do that pretty easily. Tools like PDS Moover make it possible.
If that’s the concern, people can very easily run their own PDS if they worry about this type of thing. This account for example is running on a raspberry pi about 5 feet away from me. I set it up in an hour 🤷♀️
