Ed has criticized it for almost all the big tech companies that do this. And mostly its private tech companies that like doing this as its a metric to show the VCs. If you are a public company there are way more transparent metrics you have to show and way harder to fudge the numbers.

Seidler bought the team for around 800k. Probably get at worst 2.5M. So people who spent nothing on it get to walk away with 2.5M without doing anything. They obviously didnt want to own a baseball team.. Or have to work again. So is what it is. Have to wait to see if new owners will spend.
