The next Bandcamp Friday of 2026 is this Friday, March 6th. From midnight to midnight PDT, we'll waive our revenue share and pass the funds directly to artists and labels.

It's a sort of meta-exploitation, right?

So many people exploit open-source maintainers for free labor (which is wonderful in a communal sense, but some make fortunes off that work and give nothing back) that all an attacker had to do was exploit the fact that we're exploited to wear us down more.

I remember when the xz vuln was first announced (about two years ago), and people specifically pointed out that several "sockpuppet" accounts had told the maintainer that his mental health issues didn't matter and the project needed him anyway.

Makes me look differently at some of my meaner users.

I just now got around to watching Veritasium's piece on the open-source xz vulnerability and how it transpired, and honestly it's a remarkably good look into both the upsides and downsides of open-source culture, from collaboration to exploitation of free labor. Worth a watch for sure.

Behind every increasingly terrible experience we have on our computers, there is some AI-pilled tech gremlin who has so little shame or self-awareness that they'd make, completely unprovoked, a giddy post about how they'd surrendered the faculties of their own critical thought to a fucking chatbot.

People saw the writing on the wall for this some ten years ago, and it's why at least one ponycon called it quits at the top of their game.

That group is small but highly volatile and emboldened in this political climate. They're basically holding the fandom hostage at this point.

The very fact that we have to worry about whether the 4channer/nazi side of the pony fandom would snap and hurt someone at a convention if the cons finally put their foot down and kicked their asses out is all the reason I need to never go to pony cons again, what a horrible position to be in

I can't speak to your experience, but I do know a ton of people who are either on the ace spectrum or don't want to be touched in VR and who still enjoy even the furry VR club scene just fine. I don't think most people are intent on excluding you from those spaces.

I mean yeah, on the one hand there is just something about Moonfangs...but I have a lot of thoughts about this kinda thing.

Basically it all boils down to VR being one of the safest places for people who have long struggled with confidence and self-image issues to come out of their shells.

We need to keep fighting payment processors. Call them and email them daily. Send letters through the mail.
Do all that with your elected representatives too.

We really are living in the worst society one could imagine: one where you need to generate wealth to survive at all, yet where there is a strong and sociopathic incentive for companies to *remove* the brilliant, wonderful humans they employ and replace them with AI garbage. Something's gotta give.

I truly hope all the people I know who have so much to offer the world and nowhere to offer it can find something that works for them, that keeps the lights on, and that makes them feel whole again.

I also hope the people causing all this mess suffer the same loss they've put their workers through.

Every time I hear some company announcing sweeping layoffs, then I see someone I care about suffering greatly after their livelihood slips out from under them overnight, then I see the company's stock soar on the news...I realize even those of us who hate capitalism do not hate it enough
