What are YOUR discoveries this Next Fest? π
How could this #BlackHistoryMonth end without us recommending the amazing Relooted by @nyamakop.co.za?
A super fun "run and heist" platformer in which you'll reclaim African artifacts from Western museums, and learn about their history along the way. A great & important game π

Fellow translators, what's on your radar? π
To learn more: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salikok...
Who's going to read his work on languages as viruses? π
His work tackles the role of colonization & globalization in shaping linguistic diversity - for instance, why European colonial languages speciated into divergent varieties like creoles.
Mufwene also founded the Cambridge Approaches to Language Contact series π
What's fascinating about Mufwene's approach: he draws analogies between language and biological evolution.
For him, languages undergo changes similarly to viruses, including dependence on the activities of their hosts, competition & selection, which can facilitate spread or cause extinction.π¦
Yup, it's still #BlackHistoryMonth!
For this #BlackLinguists showcase, please meet Salikoko Mufwene.
Born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, he is an awarded professor at the University of Chicago. His work focuses on creole studies, language evolution & vitality, and African linguistics.
