Ah, then there's no wrongdoing. (The couple in question could claim they'd been maligned by the novel.) If it were published as nonfiction such stories would be deemed "unauthorized biography." Fictionalized versions of real life are not that rare. (They're not my cup of tea, though.)

If the author did give a publisher the right to publish the original work, and then republished the work with minor changes under another name and/or title, they're in breach. The publisher will have many courses of action open to them, none of which the author will find pleasant. 3/3

But it's highly unethical - and inaccurate - to market such a work as "original." IMHO, an author who is caught lying to readers will rue the day. However, there are no consequences if readers don't care. 2/

I'm not sure what you mean by "their books from real life," but the owner of a copyright can do whatever they like with that material unless they've given use of the material by contract to another party (like a publisher). 1/

Absolutely fascinating. One takeaway and not a shocker. While management might think their average employee should be replaced or augmented by AI, they have made no effort whatsoever to augment or replace their own jobs with AI.

Going really "older TV," Ryan O'Neill and Robert Redford both have early credits in their careers on Perry Mason. O'Neill was a doting boyfriend of a defendant. Redford was the killer, and his breakdown on the stand to confess his awful deeds is kinda epic.

And an outright admission they don't really plan to pour anything into prosecuting the fraudsters unless they are in a blue state. And even then, the big ringleaders at the top will just buy themselves a pardon.

I keep hearing a Natasha Romanoff voice in my head saying, "So that's your play? Cruelty to those who need help, but don't look at our boss's list of the big time fraudsters he's pardoned?"

Timeline seems relevant. The women win gold. 24 hours later the men win gold. 30 minutes later the men are invited. 12-24 more hours go by before the women are? So if the men hadn't won, the women wouldn't have been invited at all?

Why on earth would the women accept?
