#queerwriters - deep in final decisions for sapphic anthology which is exciting but exhausting, going through wild ideas about new ways to reach sapphic readers that arenβt necessarily two-year book publishing cycles, spiraling over developmental edits for novel and rewrote a chapter. Big week.
Just a reminder that if you are going to pre-order or buy ACOTAR 6 & 7 as many many people will, doing that with your local indie bookstore even if it costs a few extra $$ a release like that can probably pay their rent for a month if enough people do it.
Done. Looking forward it :)
Hilariously it WAS 9am in Australia when you posted this so I was very confused.
Logo for Meanjin In 2028 Brisbane, each letter showing a picture of a speculative fiction-related image. The letter M contains an image of an Indigenous adventurer with a snake and a wooden walking stick, viewing a futuristic city with flying transport vehicles. The letters EAN contain an image of an Indigenous woman with long, curly hair, viewing the planets, stars, and constellations. The letters JIN contain an image of an Indigenous Elder in a canvas jacket wearing an Outback hat accompanied by three stylistic dingoes in a lush green Australian bush / forest. The snake's multi-coloured body weaves through the images from the M to the last N. The letter B is a dark purple swirl with many orange beast eyes, the letter R is a hovering UFO sending a beam of light down to the ground below, the letter I is a rocket blasting off, the letter S is an android, the letter B is an astronaut with a moon in the background sky, the letters A and N are of a spaceship flying over a red planet with another large orange planet in the sky behind it, and the letter E is a green Australian frog.

Books in city settings that involve some element of fantasy or magic. Sometimes also called contemporary fantasy or magical realism, but they do need that city element. They can involve romance but are not romance centric (romance centric ones usually fall under the paranormal romance genre)
Potentially. Lots of genres seem to be suffering oversaturation of certain ideas right now.
I get the reasoning, and I applaud the clarity, but it kinda feels like AI-generated books should be forced to identify, not the other way around. authorsguild.org/human-author...
The number of people who have told me "Oh, stick with it! It gets really great in book 3!"-seriously my TBR pile is too big to give something until book 3 to get good!
Now, according to every publisher and agent and industry expert I talk to.
Look it might be true that urban fantasy is dead, but itβs a genre I love so I will stick my fingers in my ears and go LA LA LA LA in denial until this madness goes away.
As a fellow Aussie urban fantasy fan, Iβm in! π
Sorry to international folks, it is only available to watch within Australia, but at least folks in the regional areas get the chance!
As a heads up to #motherlandfortsalem and #wynonnaearp fans who have not seen MAGIC yet, the Sydney Mardi Gras Film Festival on demand program is available online for another week and the Sapphic Shorts program that Magic is in is available online! queerscreen.org.au/sessions/sap...

Oh noooo now nobody can take that amazing title because it's like stealing!
Day 3 of AO3 outages. Is everybody okay? Anyone need a hug?
I had a dream last night where I had a book launch and everyone came and played board games and ate scones. I may be much older than I realized.
Chefs kiss. No notes.
It's time! Nominations are now open for the 2026 Ursula K. Le Guin Prize for Fiction, which will be given to a work of imaginative fiction, published in 2025, that reflects the concepts and ideas that were central to Ursulaβs own work.
Nice work. Instantly made me wanna read it.
Also. Fiction. Made up. As long as your internal world is consistent who cares?
ICYMI: The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri is a high fantasy with an emerging side of romance.
At the heart of the story are two #booksky #amreading
See, I always loved this because it was evidence that the rigid boxes the army liked to put witches into were always bogus. It comes as no surprise that Scylla was also uninterested in being limited. It was a second season touch I really enjoyed.
Ha we should swap full inventories sometime.
Small reminder that we have ONE MORE DAY of subs on our first anthology, and that we are in Australia so Feb 28th comes fasterβ¦ ππ
Thereβs particularly a lot of great YA in here, but not exclusively. Wow.
First line: βwho are the hell are you?β Lol. Itβs fixed in the manuscript now!
I was today years old when I found out that Melissa Etheridge is not already IN the rock n roll hall of fame. It would never have occurred to me. And also, HOW?
