Those first few responses got a chuckle out of me.

Bigotry erodes the critical faculties because it is a cognitive shortcut, and modern racism in particular essentially forces you to believe in moon man nonsense, but even so. One leaflet round on the Edgware Road is all I am asking!

Sectarian.

The sheer contempt and entitlement in that word.

Thousands of Muslim voters just voted for a white, (I think) working class non-Muslim woman because they feel abandoned by Labour and agree with her views on a huge foreign policy issue and on immigration policy

I don't think there's any learning of any kind going on, this is the sort of thing you could only say if you're so deep into the bunker mindset that reality is a mere oddity to be pondered briefly and then ignored

'Embarrassing', as a word, is insufficiently descriptive.

had to look this up because i was pretty sure there was no Shakespeare play of this name and there isn't: instead today i learned that Shakespeare did a guest verse in a play by some hacks in the early 1590s. you love to see it

There's something unnerving about someone who clearly wants power but not for any definable reason. McSweeney clearly has no great ambition to reshape the state - but he also doesn't seem to want personal glory, attention or fame, or he'd be more visible. He just wants to stop anyone else having it.

Obviously that's still far below logos, although logos' AOT compiler is something truly special, so I'm not surprised that it beats the hell out of anything else in the domain it's been specifically optimised for! Thanks again, I'll see whether there's anything else I can glean from your use-case :)

Thanks! I'm always looking for places where performance is sub-par to improve. Just FYI: the `Rich` error type does non-trivial work tracking the set of expected tokens, something which logos doesn't do. When switching to the `Cheap` error type, I see a 2.4x improvement in performance.

Hello! Out it curiosity, is your code open source? I've been playing with some changes upstream and would like to see how much of an impact they might have.

The public commons is forums, tutorials, etc. and an open weight local model harms it. The commons cease to have value without shared problem-solving. If discordification of the open web is enclosure, 'ask an LLM when you hit a problem' certainly has the same effect.

This reeks of a no true scotsman argument, no? I've yet to see an application of the technology that isn't obviously enclosure. I think it is important that we can admit to ourselves when something we partake in is bad and harmful. I drive a petrol car to work: we're all sinners.

The BBC coverage is absolutely terrible.

It leads on "sharply contested narratives"

It has a dramatic skew to the US government

It has posted the video but has failed to report on what it shows: it shows the US govt account is untrue

It is, but I'd rather that Arnold Average's starting point was a hatred of billionaires than it was a hatred of asylum seekers. As the overall quality of debate continues to degrade, wrong-but-well-intentioned worldviews start to look more useful as a tool for shifting the window.

At the end, everything is framed in terms of super wealthy vs poor, as opposed to the need for broad-based taxation.

s the use of artificial intelligence in art is hotly debated, one student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks took matters into his own mouth. On January 13, Graham Granger, a film and performing arts major, was arrested for criminal mischief when he ripped the art, made with the help of AI, from the wall of a university gallery and ate it β€œin a reported protest,” according to the police report.

Additional reporting was contributed by Lizzy Hahn.
