All the trams out of Switzerland in Basel were checked when we were there. Spoke to some locals who actually didn’t see it as too big a problem as only takes a minute or so. But everyone’s ID was checked. But had the same entering Italy by land and also Austria.

Car drivers had not “objected” , this comment is from paragraphs 31-34 where the inspector was describing the setting and visual impact of the site for all users. Of which he commented on pedestrians, road users and motorists. The “view of car drivers” was not given as a reason.
