If a kid tries to go with “I never liked this version of the project and I wanted to do a different thing but no one would listen so it’s not my fault it sucks” you can say “Did you follow the group contract plan about what to do if there’s a disagreement?”

If a kid comes to you saying “I did all the work because Student X wouldn’t do their part and it’s not fair” you can say “Did you follow the group contract plan about what to do if a group member doesn’t uphold their responsibilities?”

today’s teacher tip: have groups make group work contracts before embarking on a group project, it will solve (almost) all of your group work woes

My wife told me that people not consuming a consistent diet of literature is why they struggle with empathy & putting themselves in the shoes of others & now I see it in everything.
Nothing surprising about this guy beating his chest & proudly proclaiming that he doesn’t read though.
No shit man.

This post is about Natsume Soseki's Kokoro, which I have taught several times and which never fails to hit at least a few students particularly hard. (Also, this student read WAY ahead ... I have a feeling more may come around when the whole class reaches the end!!)

sometimes all you need to fuel you through the day is ONE (1) student telling you how transformative it was for them to read a book you assigned

The other day we had a notary at our house who was pleasantly wacky; we started talking about astrology & she told me that apparently this year is my Reset Year and it's a really good thing and I am clinging to that as we ring in my birthday month even though everything else is crumbling?

As of tonight, licenses of trans people across Kansas are being invalidated en masse, enabling the overnight criminalization of an entire group of people for going about our lives. It’s often said you never know when you’re living through history, so let me assure you: that’s what’s happening now.

(p.s. I say "disasters" with teacherly love) (this is also a group that I haven't been able to get to quiet down fully since August and today we had 45 minutes of silence during which everyone was drawing maps)

Fair! As I said in my other reply, it just felt like something they should actually have addressed. But maybe it was in some version of an episode and they had to cut it, who knows!

I read that as her being frustrated than Santos would not explain the CT to her. And obviously that is not the ideal way to approach someone who communicates with ASL!! but it feels like there should have been a beat where she got to explain that she’d rather wait than use alternate communication.

Ok this is NOT important but can someone please explain to me why the deaf woman on The Pitt has not, in many episodes fraught with a lack of an ASL translator, ever been offered to WRITE DOWN HER SYMPTOMS OR RESPOND TO QUESTIONS IN WRITING??? Honestly it’s made me insane

I think the first few series are pretty good, if for no other reason than they really hook kids and get them reading!! My 8yo is on like book 19 or something crazy like that right now and I honestly haven’t read that far. But they love it.
