This message that you can "maximize your reading potential" by "avoiding difficult language" is like suggesting that you can "maximize your strength potential" by "avoiding difficult workouts." IT MAKES NO SENSE
I have no evidence of this but part of me STRONGLY believes that the increase I’ve noticed in dyslexia and dysgraphia diagnoses for students is linked to a) only reading and writing on screens starting at a young age, and b) a lack of exposure to complex language during key developmental times

If a kid tries to go with “I never liked this version of the project and I wanted to do a different thing but no one would listen so it’s not my fault it sucks” you can say “Did you follow the group contract plan about what to do if there’s a disagreement?”
If a kid comes to you saying “I did all the work because Student X wouldn’t do their part and it’s not fair” you can say “Did you follow the group contract plan about what to do if a group member doesn’t uphold their responsibilities?”
today’s teacher tip: have groups make group work contracts before embarking on a group project, it will solve (almost) all of your group work woes
My wife told me that people not consuming a consistent diet of literature is why they struggle with empathy & putting themselves in the shoes of others & now I see it in everything.
