There's a whole lot of bad happening around us right now. Here's one good. After 3 years of struggle with Long COVID, Dianna Cowern, Physics Girl, is back with a new science video. That's something to be thankful for. youtu.be/B3m3AMRlYfc?...
There are real fears about skill and craft being supplanted by tech in the form of generative AI. To talk about this I decided to take a look...out my window. Brian Eno was out there! Not really, but I did find interesting insights in his work and ideas. www.rockandrollreclaimed.com/stories/eno-...
With that said, I think I like Nervous Night slightly better than Play Deep.
Embarrassing #MusicSky confession: The Outfield and The Hooters occupy the same subfolder in the 1985 sector of my mind and I frequently mix them up.
Bowie's genius wasn't just in his music or personas. He knew that great stories leave room for the audience to fill in their own gaps. AI doesn't. It fills in those gaps.
How can we make stuff that matters in this post-Bowie, generative AI era? Read:

I look at a recent AI policy from the tech world and try to draw some parallels to the world of creativity. How do we make stuff, using AI as support, that's useful, beautiful, durable, and doesn't just add more to the pile?

Wild Turkey 101 and Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye
Had some delicious Turkey today!
(and the meat was pretty decent too)

Lzzy Hale is my favorite rock singer of right now. Paul Rodgers is my favorite rock singer of all time. What a fantastic tribute to Bad Company from Halestorm and great to see Paul. Wish they could have collaborated sooner. youtu.be/Qmf-dN9gsGM?...

Metal post: I became a fan of Alissa White-Gluz back when she was collaborating with Kamelot. Sheβs since done some good work with Arch Enemy. Now sheβs left A.E. and is seemingly going solo. Her new song (with Oliver from Kamelot) is so cool. Canβt wait to hear more. youtu.be/MvnKywEnTZI?...
I wrote this in response to someone's post on LinkedIn, which I immediately lost. So I did what I do best and turned my 75 word comment into a rambling 500 word blog post. Maybe AI and me aren't so different after all. www.rockandrollreclaimed.com/ai-writing-p...
My annual Halloween playlist. This year I leaned slightly into dreams and nightmares. There's also a heavy dose of Ozzy and Sabbath, as well as little tributes to Ace Frehley and Brent Hinds. Take a listen! You can get it on Apple Music, Tidal, Spotify, and YouTube Music.

Last week I went to MAICON - the Marketing AI Conference in Cleveland. On my way home I got the news that Ace Frehley had passed away. What does it mean to be human in a world full of of machines? Ace can show us www.rockandrollreclaimed.com/reflecting-o...
Picture of ChatGPT Atlas browser video
Watching the ChatGPT Atlas video. Maybe itβs because Sam Altman has been in all the Sora things but all these people look AI generated.
As a supporter of the younger generations, is it ok to ask what the line is for what things are low key and what things are just in a normal key?
Ace Frehley holding a Les Paul guitar
This one hits hard for me. Ace was a legend and inspired so many guitarists. I am thankful to have gotten to see him many times, both in KISS and as a solo artist. He played loud, he performed with style and attitude, and he loved to have fun. Thanks for everything, Ace.
Howe and Lagrange road sign in Indiana
Most people think ZZ Top wrote La Grange about a brothel in Texas but it was actually inspired by this very sign on the Indiana Toll Road.
"Howe Howe Howe Howe."
"And you were never afraid,
You put your life on the line,
And you were always alone out on the sea."
This song is resonating with me in light of current world events. A great rock & roll tribute to a little ship that made a big difference.

That was crazy
Here's my more complete thoughts: www.rockandrollreclaimed.com/taylor-swift...
I feel like this album was recorded in an aquarium. Even compared with Taylorβs recent albums and other recent pop albums, it sounds distant and muddy. The acoustic instruments are way too far down in the mix for my liking.
Songs are good. If this had a more vibrant sound I'd really like it.
Fundamentally, the songs are good, and theyβll be great live.
Elizabeth Taylor is cool. I like Wood (Motown-y). Actually Romantic has a chord progression reminiscent Weezerβs Say It Ainβt So (without the heavy power chords). The closing track with Sabrina was nice.
Next part has my criticism:
Hereβs the review of Taylor Swiftβs The Life of a Showgirl that nobody asked for from a late 40s man that mainly listens to rock and metal (but started life as a pop fan).
I like most of the songs. I didnβt listen closely to the lyrics (rarely do), but good hooks and catchy choruses throughout.
Happy Taylor Swift Day to all who celebrate
I've seen Halestorm 16 times over the last dozen years, in 8 cities and 2 countries. Last night's show (Sioux City, Iowa) promoting their latest record Everest is among my favorites. They're definitely one of the great live rock acts of the last 20 years, in my (correct) opinion).
Lindsey Stirling in Sioux City
Lindsey Stirling in Sioux City
Well and now Iβve seen Lindsey Stirling. She is a very talented performer. A little Riverdance-y for my tastes.
I bought the Apocalyptica Plays Metallica on 4 Cellos CD nearly 30 years ago when it came out. This is the first time I've been able to see them live. This time opening the Halestorm and Lindsey Stirling and playing all Metallica. Hopefully I'll be able to catch a headline show soon. Very cool.
Houses of the Holy is a great, unique Led Zeppelin record. What can we can learn from it when making our own stuff? Leaning on fundamentals, embracing influence, and keeping authentic, human connection is more vital than ever in the era of generative AI.

That was challenging to watch, particularly in the first half. But a win is a win! Hopefully they can figure some things out this week.
Somehow both teams are going to lose this game
