@leaflet.pub is there a way for me to look up a user in the reader? Like if I knew @foo.bar had a publication, is there any way for me to "find" their content?
PSA: with ordered lists we've hit parity with core Markdown!*
Paragraphs, h1βh3, dividers, code blocks, link blocks, images, block quotes, ordered & unordered lists, inline code & links, bold & italicβ¦
(*Main one 'missing' is arbitrary HTMLβ¦okay technically h4βh6 too but no one asks about those)
Open source: you want it? Just build it. Thanks to @leaflet.pub, @awarm.space and @schlage.town for helping me to contribute
Eevee!
Be honest--you wanted that folder to be called "Eevee" didn't you?
It can't love the double slashes though surely? The pattern is so reminscent of "http://" I gotta think that was a pain. Though I suppose if you never export then it's not really a big deal
There's the occasional slash and then there's "SEND: //amp" XD. That one must have been absolute murder on your exports
Shades of #atproto but for networking. Still need DNS & all that good stuff but feels akin to a PLC/PDS comparison; ISPs = PLC, decentralized nodes = PDS? Obviously a long way to go between this project and that reality but definitely gets the gears turning... youtube.com/watch?v=XTnYVh7K6xQ

And we know it's won when having some level of #ATmosphere interoperability is a required default of new and existing software. At which point users will have even LESS reason to know or care about it, they will just care that GrahameReads doesn't sync with Leaflet and so isn't even worth their time
A trap in this community: We think the tech is great for its own sake. We can't assume users feel the same. #ATprotocol must win by having apps with great features for users, and do so without ever requiring a user to know anything about it. They can if they want, it's FOSS, but assume they won't.
What they will understand is they won't lose their photos when ATPhotos folds or their memes when MemeProtocol becomes too corporate. The icky, resigned feelings of today's internet go away in favor of the empowered "screw those guys, I'm taking my business elsewhere" and ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO DO SO
Even if this project becomes the new way we internet and changes everyone's mental model, the VAST majority of users still would not know anything about the #atprotocol. See: how many people know the first thing about HTTP?
"Own your data" is important and awesome, but the truth is most people don't care apart from feeling vaguely uncomfortable when they think about Zuck reading their posts. They care about actual features they can use and will go glossy-eyed when you talk about the protocol.
Why would they? People just want to meme with friends. They don't care about the tech. Never have.
It's why I'm hyped to see apps launch PDSes. Don't talk to users about #atproto, they don't care. Get them in the #atmosphere, then show them how it can be better than legacy internet.
Everyone has suddenly started launching PDS services with their apps and I am here for it
When I lived in Park Slope (2015) the advantage of walking up there vs taking the Union St. stop was you got several lines to choose from. Downside was it seemed to make absolutely no difference on how long you waited for a train...
This is the way. Make good services that happen to be on the #atprotocol and let people ease into the new data paradigm.
Oop up to 502 now. Things must be getting worse
I've got 500 errors with it actually
The second one, the link in the text goes to an older post which I put in when I was filling it out in the publish field but Bsky didn't render it as a link.
@schlage.town that link goes to a different leaflet post & I generated the bsky post from the publish button in canvas. Bug perhaps? Might be on the bsky side though.
The PDS service I would want if I was an active App builder on the AT Protocol. Companion document to my PDS-as-a-Service post: https://grahame.fyi/3mdyfrpsdns2f
"Disease is caused by microbes...microbes? They're tiny critters you can't see. Yes, everywhere. Use a microscope and you can see them...what's a microscope? Don't you have lenses? No it's not witchcraft! Look, wash your hands and sterilize your tools. Alcohol, fire, or boiling water will be fine.
"Milord, if you want proof of tectonic plates have your scientists compare the rocks on either side of Loch Ness. The northern ones will match rocks in Canada. Wait, you don't know about Canada yet? New world? No? Oh wait, Iceland! You know, that Danish island west of Scotland? Same rocks as there"
