California recently passed, and Colorado and NY recently introduced, age verification legislation targeting OS providers that is so imprecisely written that it's unclear how to comply. If you live in one of those states, contact your state senator and rep asking them to oppose this legislation.

UKIs and composefs support for Bootable Containers - DevConf.CZ 2025 YouTube video by DevConf

This talk by @siosm.bsky.social covers the important work being done to enable verification for bootc images like ours. youtu.be/D7HqckeHlx8

"Using composefs and fs-verity, we can link a UKI to a complete read only filesystem tree, guaranteeing that every byte of every file is verified on load."

Forced Consent & Consent Bypass

16 June 2025
Meta announced today that it also wants to introduce ads on WhatsApp, which will be based on personal data from Facebook and Instagram. This further integrates WhatsApp into other Meta services - an originally independent app, which initially was available for just $1 per year without ads or data usage. This also means that Meta is consolidating its social networking monopoly. EU law was actually supposed to prevent this."

Use Signal. We promise, no AI clutter, and no surveillance ads, whatever the rest of the industry does. <3

I’ve spent so much time chatting with AI and teaching them along the way that I’m starting to wonder if it’s time they start paying me back for all these free lessons!

Firefox changed their ToS recently, and it’s really bad. It’s disappointing to see Linux distros still setting Firefox as the default browser when security and privacy should be top priorities.

This might be my conspiracy theory, but doesn’t it seem like the food industry pumps out junk just so the medical industry can profit off our ailments? Are they colluding against us? We’re stuck in a vicious cycleβ€”keep us sick, keep them rich.

🌍 Open source is a global effort.

It doesn’t matter where you’re fromβ€”what matters is that you’re building.

The best software isn’t built behind closed doorsβ€”it’s built in the open, by people like you.

If you’re a Windows user, I can help you switch to Linux. Please stop supporting an insecure and privacy-intrusive operating system. What’s stopping you from switching to Linux/macOS? Ask all your questions, and I’ll answer everything.

Open Source is the ultimate act of philanthropyβ€”sharing knowledge, code, and innovation for the benefit of humanity.
When everyone has access, everyone can grow.

Let’s talk about AI and end-to-end encryption Recently, I came across a fantastic new paper by a group of NYU and Cornell researchers entitled β€œHow to think about end-to-end encryption and AI.” I’m extremely grateful to see t…

I wrote a post about how AI will interface with end-to-end encryption. TL;DR maybe not so well! blog.cryptographyengineering.com/2025/01/17/l...

It felt great to nerd out on privacy advocacy and the possibility of community-run internet. We even wrapped it up with a conversation on improving our personal healthβ€”because what’s success in tech without taking care of ourselves first? Feeling energized and inspired!

Finally got to catch up with an old friend and we ended up having a super productive evening! We dived into open-source tools, demoed the Brave browser, explored the magic of Nix/NixOS, and talked about projects like secureblue and Trivalent. We also agreed Chromium’s security model is hard to beat.

Telegram isn't fully open source - only client apps are. Server code is closed. They also use MTProto, their homebrew crypto protocol. Reminder: 'Don't roll your own crypto' exists for a reason. Any serious security product should use established, peer-reviewed protocols instead.

The line must be drawn. The First Amendment isn't just Americanβ€”it's humanity's blueprint for freedom. Its erosion threatens more than speechβ€”it endangers democracy itself. Defend it now, or lose it forever.

Today, they censor 'misinformation' and 'hate speech.' Tomorrow, it could be criticism of policies or leaders. If America's beacon of free expression dims, it sets a global precedent. A world of controlled narratives follows.

Free speech is liberty's foundation. When Americaβ€”historically its strongest defenderβ€”wavers, the world notices. Laws favoring 'safety' over speech open doors to censorship. Once government defines 'acceptable speech,' dissent becomes the target.

One solution? Containers.

Implement strict isolation using SELinux policies, seccomp filters, and network namespaces. Lock down resources with cgroups, enforce read-only filesystems, and validate every action with ephemeral tokens. Each AI agent becomes its own hardened, containerized environment.

AI agents will be HUGE. With each new capability, attack surface grows. Attackers can poison training data, manipulate decision logic or use deceptive inputs to trigger unintended behaviors. One compromised agent can infiltrate entire networks. We need adversarial testing and monitoring.
