That makes sense. I think I just don’t see *markets* as the uniquely load-bearing component of “those with power will be incentivized to victimize the less fortunate to enrich themselves”. In the words of Don Draper, “that’s what the power is for!”

Is it the *directness* of the thing that makes it more distressing to you, or is this a much broader critique of markets than I’m reading it as? It seems to me that anyone with market-market moving geopolitical power has more or less always had the ability to make insane amounts of money off it

one of the things that makes me a little worried is that I feel some of the reliance comes from developing intuition about the idiosyncrasies of these tools and preemptively prompting against them. but once the reliance sets in just have to hope new models aren’t too different!

I don’t even think you need to introduce all the different layers here to get somewhere interesting! Like, restricting yourself to a simplified world model where compiler diagnostics are a deterministic function of their inputs it is a miracle that the computer can fix them ~100% of the time!
