As Mayor Mamdani said in response to Tuberville, "I feel a loneliness and isolation that I know many of you have felt as well." We won't let Muslim Americans face the GOP's hate alone. It's on all of us to stomp out religious bigotry and ensure Republicans face consequences for their racism.
Congress must censure Tommy Tuberville, Randy Fine, Andy Ogles, and Brandon Gill. These Republicans are inciting hatred — and there must be consequences. Condemning vitriolic bigotry shouldn't be considered a partisan act.
This is unfortunately a tired playbook: Attempting to whip up hate towards Muslim and Arab communities as a pretext for disastrous wars abroad, and violence and civil rights violations at home. It’s pathetic, and we must defeat it.
Everyone in America should feel free to worship without fear. Religious freedom does not only apply to a select group of faiths. Every Member of Congress took an oath to support the Constitution. Smearing an entire religion as dangerous is in direct violation of that oath.
The Republican Party's descent into open Islamophobia is not just disgusting — it's also completely un-American. Muslims have been part of the American experiment since before this country began. We will not let the GOP smear millions of Muslim Americans in order to distract from Trump's failures.
