what a world
A long time ago, I used to know a lot about foreign-imposed regime change (FIRC) and study them.
I guess that makes me qualified to write a thread about them, especially in wake of Trump bombing Iran.
So here goes nothing. π§΅
Good to see this excellent intervention from Labour MPs Becky Cooper and Tim Roca - rightly focusing on the immediate democratic risks created by FPTP, and highlighting the @appgfairelections.bsky.social's proposal for a National Commission as the way forward
The attack line on Green Drugs Policy by Reform entirely echoed and exaggerated by David Blunkett on #bbcaq
Wherever you stand on drugs and legalisation, this country needs a grown-up debate on this complex subject rather than this dismissive stuff about "Polanski wanting to legalise crack".

Hey, my friends saw you at the Woke Progressive and Sectarian Islamist Convention and they said you were telling everyone how to vote
Oh, to be clear, I meant that the system is likely irreparable in that I don't think in its current state we will be able to walk back this fragmentation and disproportionality. Totally agree that the solutions are right in front of us. We are long overdue electoral reform!
If Goodwin had sat on the stage and peed his pants he'd have left with more dignity than this
Yeah the electoral system is broken in potentially irreparable ways and that is making things a lot more chaotic, but otherwise I don't think we're that much of an outlier.
Goodwin's petulance is hilarious, but it's also a warning that, for the far-right, they have no abiding commitment to democracy and value it only to the extent to which it allows them to attain power.
If *we* value democracy, we must take the warning.
Charlotte embodies the new Conservative Party (she's a fucking loser)
I keep thinking of @dylandifford.bsky.social's point that everything wrong with the McSweeney-Starmer governing strategy was obvious to anyone who had done the most basic and broad of first year political science.
Itβs a running joke in academia that Matt Goodwin is bad at maths.
This sort of thing is why: the combined Labour/Green vote could have split in any way possible and Goodwin would have finished 2nd or 3rd. He did not lose because progressives coordinated. He lost *in spite of them not doing so*.
My timeline is almost entirely Matt Goodwin hate right now. Smashing that repost button like I'm trying to give myself RSI.
Matt Goodwin, a man so personally repellant he reversed the creeping wave of fascism sweeping the globe.
You think thatβs funny do you. Well right this moment Matt Goodwinβs sitting at home eating his book again

MATTHEW BADLOSS IS IT
matt goodwin *will* see your jokes about him and they will gnaw away at whatβs left of his soul forever and ever and ever
The Gorton and Denton result is fantastic for several reasons, but easily the funniest one is that the Tories got so few votes that they LOST THEIR DEPOSIT.
Eat shit Matt Goodwin
I was at the count in Gorton and Denton last night and we all saw Matt Goodwin eat ballot papers. His girlfriend and team begged him to stop but he kept stuffing it into his mouth and making grunting sounds like the Cookie Monster

Like you, my starting assumption is it must be catastrophic levels of incompetence, instead of malice, but it's pretty fucking galling that an already challenging situation for all three (and others) has been made infinitely worse by completely avoidable fuck-ups.
Didn't think it was possible to hate Rupert Lowe more than everyone in Southampton did when he owned the club. Turns out we were only scratching the surface.
