Blown away by this showcase today, everything in it is so fascinating and inspiring. I wanna make more games that are like this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Og6_...
Idea: a restaurant/cafe that only serves savoury/umami flavours called "Ooh Mami!"
Emberville shaping up to be a hybrid AAA indie.
We already have this, but it's kind of fractured - companies that organise creators for events, newsletters for local indie devs, a discord of partnered oceanic streamers (but indie happenings never get the spotlight). I think we can bring it all together.
My dream would be to tie into local government bodies. e.g. ScreenQLD with their annual games awards festival - I'd love to help devs sort attendance out and then show creators what's in store for them to check out - coordinate big hype windows for our local legends.
Hello, ANZ based Indie Devs. Is there any interest in a service that connects your game with a local creators/press base? I understand there is pressengine, terminals etc. but something more local can be more intimate and go beyond "here's my game key".
I'm personally more of a fan of micro trailers. The idea of showing me the main story beats in the first 10 seconds, then hit me with the slow parts once I'm intrigued. If not, I'll usually go to screenshots to see the feel and gameplay style.
Maybe it's a sh!t idea, but if you are willing to give it a go:

Are you:
- in the gaming industry
- curious about an alternative to discord
I've created a stoat (FOSS competitor to discord) server to bring together people who love to make games (devs, artists, designers) with people who love to talk about games (press/creators).

I disagree, a CEO doesn't need to be a games expert. Just like a game developer can come from a Web developer field and vice versa . It's how they can adapt that's more important - and new ideas often come from outside experience. As long as they love games, they can succeed.

The developers behind Train Simulator and about seven different Train World Sim games are making a Thomas the Fucking Tank Engine game and I am so "ON BOARD," as it were
Look at the goddamn first-person driver's compartment view. YOU ARE INSIDE THOMAS.

Was gonna stream tonight but I'm having date night instead! Sorry fam!
I guess it could be open to all, and have verified systems. Hmm.
Is it a dumb idea to run a curated server for indie developers and creators/press?
I want to try out this stoat FOSS discord alternative, and I thought it'd be a good idea to have a server that's just for connecting some of the industry together in an informal setting.
Maybe this stoat (formerly revolt) one - it's #FOSS and seems similar to discord. Will have to check it out.
You don't rate TeamSpeak 6? I found it to be similar. No mobile app though, so not feature parity for messaging.
Anyway I've deliberately left this vague so as to foster thought, and I'm open to feedback, which I think is important to the analysis cycle - like a negative wire creates a balanced audio cable (like XLR)
Further, I would say that just because something sucks now, it doesn't mean it's useless. Saying "your thing sucks, throw it in the bin and forget about it" is not helpful. It doesn't foster the human inquisitive nature we have. I wouldn't think it changes people's minds (just their public actions).
So then I would say the only valid arguments against tech are widely agreed bad things - when harm is caused. Those can be mitigated - like how bacon causes cancer, yet we still have bacon in moderation, so too does tech need to work on reducing the negatives as much as pushing the positives.
I think radicalised opinions in general suck. Humanity is an interesting species, and I believe one of our greatest strengths is analysis - when we try to put aside our biases and see something from all angles. Even if we decide on something, allowing others to redo the analysis is a good thing.
