We have literal concentration camps for immigrants and it’s barely getting any coverage at all

Here's the acting head of FEMA just unliterally deciding that Article I is fake earlier today. The Constitution is not in effect.

Posters on this app have had a better grasp on our political reality than basically everyone by employing this One Weird Trick - taking the President seriously when he tells everyone the things he’s going to do

this is where the rubber meets the road. NIH doesn't just fund research univs and hospitals in blue states. if anything they're most important to regional economies in the reddest states and districts.

Elon Musk wants to cut government spending. Tesla and SpaceX benefit from it Over the last 16 years, Musk's business deals with the government total nearly $20 billion, according to federal contracting data.

DOGE plans to slash about as much ($4B) from NIH, and hence from universities and medical centers, as the government gave SpaceX ($3.8B) last year.

It's not about the money and government "waste."

It's never been about the money or government "waste."

If Sullivan goes, every billionaire with a bruised ego gets a legal kill switch for journalism. Hope you like your news pre-approved by the people it’s supposed to hold accountable.

Yes, seriously, to them. In his 2023 book Hegseth called West Point "a Marxist indoctrination camp churning out little Che Guevarras"

The only group for whom this is sustainable is the news media establishment who can’t see an emperor BF-naked in front of them.

Bears repeating that this isn’t sustainable. Not for the Canadian/Mexican publics infused with anti-American sentiment or the MAGA faithful who will want Dear Leader to put up or shut up with his signature policy and the manna it rains down from heaven. This equilibrium has a short shelf life.

Trudeau saw what Mexico did and sold Trump the optics of what Canada was already doing.

This is a doubly bad sign about the havoc that appointees like Patel, Hegseth, and Vought could wreak. We were told Wiles was going to discipline and organize the second term Trump operation. Instead it's just maniacs running wild while grandpa signs things and watches television.

who wants to take a guess as to how many news stations carried any, at all, of the Dem USAID protest/rally that included several members of Congress

when you perceive that "Dems aren't doing anything" you need to understand how much work the word 'perceive' is doing there & what biases that factors

they do not seem to think that civil society is real and their mental model of the world holds that people are drones who will do what they’re told

This makes ZERO sense. Sovereign wealth funds exist to invest a nation’s foreign currency holdings from running trade surpluses. The U.S. has a net negative foreign reserve balance, with U.S. dollars held abroad, as a function of its reserve currency status.

GOP pollster says Trump voters β€˜tired’ of being accused of racism Republican pollster Frank Luntz said on Friday that President Trump’s voters are β€œtired” of being accused of being sexist and racist. In a discussion about Trump’s remarks linking diversity, equity…

Are the next 4 years really going to be logging on everyday to sentences like "a 19 year old doge intern called Big Balls has your social security number" because I'm already at capacity for this sort of thing

if I understand American politics correctly, progressivism is something that requires 60 senate votes to work, while national conservatism doesn’t require any votes at all

Caveats being:

1) we know in the IR literature that leaders horny for a deal are likely prone to take bad deals. That could be a problem for the U.S. for something important.

2) who’s to say target publics in places like Mexico don’t punish their leaders for the optics as this repeats.

I’m sure Trump will eventually figure this out, but world leaders have seen his shtick before and know he’s prone to bite on the optics over the substance.

The FP of this administration exists to fuck itself over.

>think that spending money on these countries is bad/waste.

>other sources of investment are sought (China)

>complain that this is unacceptable but also refuse to counter with investments.
