Strangely, yes! As soon as it came into frame, rendering would slow to a crawl. Something about that tiny grid pattern just drove it crazy, whereas more "natural" complexity (motion, people, random background clutter) doesn't seem to phase it

Doing test renders of a new video...

The same plugin that struggled to get even 0.5fps when processing the hotel carpet in my last video is quite happily running between 5-10fps in scenes with high motion, panning, varied textures, etc

It is crazy how little things can make so much difference

Wouldn't be surprised if they're just being lazy and using AI to generate their thumbnails... laaaame

...which, at the time, were a step up from an HD webcam and a manual focus USB camera when I started in 2022

Last few years I was using a couple of VM20 shotgun mics, connected to my cameras. I just recently upgraded to the VM40's to have the onboard 32bit safety, and the freedom of placing them independently of my video recorders.

So far I haven't used any lavaliers, but I do have my eye on a set...

If you have a locker big enough to fit me at 5'10", you could shove me in there as much as you want :3

...but that's ok, because I had both mics recording onboard 32bit float safety tracks

(I don't think I can convey how satisfying it is on a deeply nerdy level to be able to say that)

Expected to have a new video to post by now but one of the plug-ins I use is having an absolute fit trying to process the visually busy carpet pattern every time it comes into frame, slowing down to like 0.5fps, so I'm having to render in little chunks to avoid crashes >_<

Expectation: with this new laptop, editing will be a lot faster!

Reality: ok, with the new color correction, upscaling, and higher efficiency codecs I can use with the new hardware, it'll only take 2hrs to render the first 3 minutes of footage... that's not bad!

There's nothing "weird" about using a dog bowl, you're just jealous mine has rubber ring on the bottom to stop it from scooting around when I shove my face in it, unlike those dumb "people" bowls that slide all over

I picked up a 16" portable USB C display last week. The display on my laptop is great, but it gets filled up quickly with timelines and effect tabs

I've only used it for two days and already can't imagine how I went this long editing with just one screen >_<
