Pleased to share the final version of this behemoth of a paper, now finally published. I guess I can retire now?

More functional data, many thousands of words removed, and a few other updates from last year's preprint.

On the side of small gripes: I'll never find reasonable to be asked to be online at 5am to review grants especially now that paylines are gone-and so are grants. It's unreasonably burdensome for all, even more so for those getting children ready for/to school. If the goal is inclusion, 5am is not it

It's a tragedy. I hope no one thinks that we are over the hump. This is quite literally how federally supported science goes extinct.

White House stalls release of approved US science budgets
The US Congress rejected sweeping cuts to science agencies. But the NIH, the NSF and NASA have had their spending slowed.
Congress rejected massive cuts to US science budgets for 2026, but much of the money still isnβt flowing to researchers.
The culprit? The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is quietly slow-walking the release of funds. π§΅π

Finally, today's offering! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
This began life as a very different project which failed because we couldn't agree on defining eqtl sharing across cohorts. So two young members of the lab dug deeply into this - first @ijbeasley.bsky.social, then @patrickgibbs.bsky.social

This is an interesting article for those beginning down the cryoEM route for structure determination from the perspective of a crystallography lab. Not giving up on crystallography yet π but I honestly can't think of a single crystallography lab now that isn't also using CryoEM in some capacity.

This may end up being a hot take, but two things can be true at once: the new SciENcv is a pain, and it won't really affect things too much as most reviewers (...check notes...) actually use google/google scholar/REPORTER already

Maybe, and just maybe and controversially so, this buys into the concept that, by and large, reviewers will use google or google scholar + reporter, so why bother?? Obviously not a fan either, but there is the reality of what people actually do when reviewing applications that is of some comfort

Cells come in many shapes and sizes, with diverse physiological functions. But how do #organelles and their interaction networks remodel during #differentiation of stem cells into different cell types? Hereβs what we discovered about neuronal differentiation: 1/13

For me, that has meant quietly stepping back from collaborations that, from the outside, looked hard to walk away from. There is always more behind these decisions, and protecting trainees first and foremost, and then the integrity of our science is paramount

Of so many things to be infuriated about, this is perhaps my biggest gripe. Pancreatic cancer patients, who face a future without hope, are being denied a potential game-changing therapy

Proud of this review on centering models and next gen techs to address and prevent acquired resistance in cancer. Cements the work that our working group within @nciartnet.org has done over the last couple years, glad it resonated with people
