“The forces we are up against have made peace with mass death. They are treasonous to this world and its human and non-human inhabitants.”
I talked with @ziibiing.com about Stand With Minnesota, keeping neighbors housed during ICE escalation, and directing generosity where it’s actually needed.
You, an individual, cannot "fix" the whole world. You can act at the scale of your life. You should act at the scale of your life.
A Brothers Sinister show would be fantastic!!
This is an incredibly moving article, written by a dad, about what everyday people (white-knowingly taking advantage of their privilege) are doing in Minneapolis to be a part of the resistance and protect their neighbors. We should all take note.
That mask is also popular with neo-Nazi accelerationist groups, which I think is really important to mention. Just like it's important to mention that ICE agents in Denver have been dropping Ace of Spades cards where they've kidnapped people. The white nationalist culture at work is clear.
njs.libraries.rutgers.edu NJS: An Interdisciplinary Journal Summer 2025 The New Jersey Miscount: The 1860 Census and the Accidental Humanization of Enslaved Individuals By Luke Voyles DOI: 10.14713/njs.v1112.362 Abstract: The 1860 census is the only example in U.S. history when the U.S. government systematically recorded the names and ages of enslaved individuals of a state. Because government officials underestimated the number of enslaved people in New Jersey, there was no slave schedule in the state. Therefore, the names of enslaved individuals appeared within the households of their enslavers in the regular 1860 census. The official census statistics only listed 18 individuals as enslaved in 1860, but a close examination of every 1860 census page for New Jersey uncovers 64 names tied to slavery. This essay explores the context behind the census, and how the census accidentally humanized people whom it often marginalized.
Some years ago, I was chatting with a Retropolis reader, a young history student, and I mentioned there were several dozen people enslaved in New Jersey up until the day the 13th Amendment kicked in in December 1865.
Y’all. He identified every one of them.

"the best of these kinds of books reject the bootstraps myth that individuals “escape” grinding poverty via personal merit, and those who remain simply haven’t worked hard enough. Jettisoning these myths is a step towards confronting the real violence of a class society"
times are tough, but if you can, please support The Flytrap!!
"I live in Minneapolis. South Side. It’s worse than you’ve heard. But also, weirdly, better."
insisting on calling every mass day of protest or one-day boycott a "general strike" is not the move. it's good to see people rallying around the cause, it matters, but if you want to be part of a large-scale labor action that shuts down the gears of capital, start by unionizing your workplace!!!
NEW: Meet the private-equity firm -- and its billionaire immigrant CEO -- making millions off some of ICE's cruelest deportation flights.
After a five-month investigation, my story for @motherjones.com:

Here is a phrase I hate: "bipartisan norms"
You mean unipartisan. It's just one party doing them. That's what you mean.
Citizens: "Stop these abduction agents!"
Dems: "We hear you loud and clear! We, the Democratic Party, will pass a bill to:
Support
Train
Organize and
Praise
the agency! Remember! Vote Blue No Matter Who! And if you can't vote bc you've been abducted, you're the reason the GOP wins! Be better!"
Everyone should be putting up NO ICE NO CPB NO FEDERAL AGENTS GET A JUDICIAL WARRANT OR STAY OUT signs everywhere.
Please examine what body cams *didn’t do* to stop police violence over the last decade plus since they were initially touted as a solution and understand that some of you are now rallying behind a false solution that will be a tool of criminalization more often than anything else.
Does a “reform” further empower your enemies or take power and resources away from them? Some of you need to sit with this question.

as we celebrate the most sacred holiday in the calendar I just want to let everyone know that every small boulder is just a large boulder the size of a small boulder please use caution.
this PAC, “democratic youth wave,” has poured over $100,000 into a single delaware based corporation with a generic sounding name that came into existence shortly after the PAC was formed in 2024. they’re using this man’s murder to fundraise for some vague fucking grift.
If you feel powerless, you really should channel that energy into community strengthening and support. It can be as simple as searching "(your city)+mutual aid". Start there. The most valuable thing you can give is your time, volunteer for a reputable org and make a difference where you can.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.
This isn't just a casual observation. Fascism scholars have long made this point. It's why calling them "weird" was a more effective strategy than talking about the prices of eggs. Fascism is an aesthetic political movement - you need to make people feel embarassed and horrified by it.
