Family of Nurul Shah Alam speaks publicly for first time since death
Fatimah Abdul Roshid and her son Faisel spoke to reporters for the first time on Saturday after the death of Nurul Amin Shah Alam.
CBP left Nurul Amin Shah Alam, a blind father and husband, to die in the cold.
He should be alive today. We grieve with his family and with all community members who are suffering.
ICE and CBP violence must end. Not one more dollar for these agencies.

Data Privacy and Federal Taxes for Immigrant Taxpayers
Read our FAQ, created in partnership with UnidosUS, to learn about the data privacy concerns immigrants may face when filing taxes.
For decades, the IRS said tax info wouldn't be used for immigration enforcement. Last year, it shared 47,000 addresses with DHS.

Kristi Noem was a willing and eager participant in the Trump administration’s assault on our constitutional rights and its disregard for human life.
Replacing her with Sen. Markwayne Mullin won't change that agenda — it simply puts a new face on it, all but guaranteeing more of the same cruelty.

Congress:Not Another Dollar To ICE & CBP
Right now, Congress is making decisions that will shape all of our futures, including whether to pour *even more* money into DHS.
Our message is clear: It's time to drain ICE & CBP's slush fund and reinvest those resources into our communities.

To this day, I don’t know what we did wrong to be detained...I feel like I’ll never get out of here. I just ask that you don’t forget about us. Gustavo, 13 years old

Since Trump took office, the number of children held in ICE detention has increased sixfold.
In detention, kids are denied proper schooling and medical care—while being separated from their friends & families. The toll it has on them is profound and lasting.
No child belongs in detention—period.

Organize, Mobilize, and Resist. Minneapolis is showing us how it’s done.
The day before Alex Pretti was murdered, nearly 1 in 5 Minneapolis residents took to the streets in sub-zero temperatures to demand justice. Over 700 businesses participated in the ICE out of Minnesota Coalition’s “blackout” solidarity action. You can see ICE Out of Minnesota’s full list

What We Lose When We Wait to Fight Injustice
While we grieve the murders ICE committed in Minnesota, we must consider why the Trump administration’s previous abuses did not spur similar outcry.
"We can’t wait to join the fight against the things that threaten all of us only after they invade our individual spaces of comfort."
The time to act is now — united and unwavering — in the face of authoritarianism. https://bit.ly/4kU7bYv

Photo shared by National Immigration Law Center. May be a graphic of money, card, poster, magazine and text that says 'How much $$$ Congress already gave to DHS for detention deportation through 2029: 170,000,000,000
Another way to think about it: we spend $100,000 per day on detaining and deporting our neighbors, it will take 4,658 years to spend down the current budget. If we spend $1 million dollars per day on detaining and deporting our neighbors, it will take 466 years to spend down the current budget. If we spend $10 million per day. on detaining and deporting our neighbors, it will take 46 years to spend down the current budget. Spending the 170B budget over four years averages to spending around $116.4 $116.4million million Every. Single. Day.
What our tax dollars could be used for instead: Medicaid for 6 million children and 4 million for years. or SNAP benefits for 18.7 million for 4 years or ~400,000 400 livable-wage livable- jobs for 4 years for families with a single parent and 2 children or VA medical care for 2.32 million veterans for 4 years.
The budget is a choice if we wanted to actually improve people’s lives, we could. It's time to drain ICE & CBP's slush fund. ACT NOW: www.nilc.org/STOPDHS
$170 BILLION. That's what Congress *already* gave DHS for mass detention & deportation through 2029.
Imagine what we could do instead:
⚕️Fund health care
👪 Feed kids
🧑💼 Pay livable wages
& more
More $$ is a nonstarter. It's time to drain ICE & CBP's slush fund:
