But this is the right move, the hospital has a duty of care for its staff. Cameras will make some think twice, and capture vital evidence for those who abuse staff. (2/2)

It’s a sad indictment that hospital staff who go to work to care for others are subjected to daily abuse, and the horrific attack on nurse Achamma Cherian at the Royal Oldham brought this into sharp focus. (1/2)

Building societies are a vital part of our financial services sector - serving communities, empowering savers & supporting homeownership 🏘️

A very good discussion with BSA CEO Sarah Harrison about how Government & the sector can work together.

Co-operatives aren't just good for creating jobs, they give people a stake in their future.

Great to hear Minister chriselmoremp.bsky.social confirm to our chair @jimmcmahon.co.uk that co-ops remain a "crucial part" of the UK’s development strategy moving forward. 🐝

Proud a campaign started in Oldham in 2017 has gone from a Private Members Bill to the manifesto & now before Parliament.

We’re giving 16 & 17 year olds the vote despite Tory opposition. From Peterloo marchers to working class suffragette Annie Kenney Oldham's always stepped up to expand democracy.

It was an honour to represent the UK Parliament on a cross-party delegation marking the 4th anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Ukrainians are strong, defiant & holding back Russia’s illegal assault for all of Europe. They deserve support not just to resist, but to restore peace. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦

Today, Angela Rayner put the fight for commonhold as "vested interests vs people being shafted."

She's right.

It's time to mandate commonhold, end leasehold creation for new builds, and give existing leaseholders conversion rights.

Tomorrow we lift the 9.30am restriction on bus passes, letting older and disabled people travel whenever they want.

It was good to thank the GM Older and Disabled People’s Panels for pushing for it.

A positive change powered by the people - exactly how politics should work! πŸ™ŒπŸ»

We need more support from government, councils can’t do it alone, & we need a rallying call for Oldhamers to get behind the local businesses being built so they thrive.

Keep going @oldhamcouncil.bsky.socialπŸ’ͺ (3/3)

Very proud of the Old Town Hall, rebuilt from the dust and decay. (1/3)

Not gold plated but the difference to security in older age.

With over 6.7m members and assets of nearly Β£400bn it’s already a force for good, and has so much more potential. That’s why the Labour government has made changes to drive UK investment and unlock Β£Billions. (2/3)

Reform vows to overhaul pension schemes for new local government workers Reform plans to end more generous defined benefit pension schemes for new local government workers if it wins office.

This is an assault on the safety net in retirement for millions of working people. Bin collectors, home care workers, and all the people who keep local services going.

76% of the Local Gov Pension Scheme are women, 54% part time, and the average pension is Β£5,400 a year. (1/3)

'For 14 years, the Tories allowed this HMRC rate injustice to continue' Former minister Jim McMahon has urged the Government to order HMRC to finally update mileage rates to 'show working people that they have a government on their side'

For 14 years the Tories failed to take action on mileage rates, with working people left paying to work.

Labour is the party of working people. That's why I’m calling for government to instruct HMRC to finally refresh the mileage rate & show working people that they have a government on their side.

The face of patient who left nurse millimetres away from death Romon Haque was jailed for more than 20 years

This was a horrific attack on a nurse who went to work everyday for two decades to care for patients.

The trauma goes beyond the serious injuries on that day, and my thoughts are with nurse Achamma Cherian, now thankfully back at work at The Royal Oldham Hospital.
