Really had a blast working on this project, seeing it come together, and then being bombarded with love of the project we made, I genuinely wasn't expecting even half of the attention it got, but I presume its because its my first project with a team! (Or in general lmao) So TYSM ImRunningOutOfSpace

Then came the best part, our own scrapniks 💥💥 I brought up to the team the idea and I was so glad when I see a tiny crab on the chat, GODS I am obsessed with these creatures 💯 I add my own to the line and then a few more were created afterwards, I present to yall my son Archen and his friends 🤝

Fun Fact: It was decided that this room is actually the "nose" of the Death Egg. If you play close attention you can kinda make out that fact when Mecha falls through the floor :)

I was then tasked to create a room for mecha to hide in. At first I wanted to do something with the flower that he cares for, but then that room would end up as a battle arena so it had to be more spacious. Also thought of playing around with the shape of it, but we didn't want to round it much

For the beach scene I had actually multiple concepts and ideas, but didn't want to start on them until clearing up how much was gonna be used and to ease work for the pencils and story itself since we were limited to do 20 pages, and this just appears throught 2 panels. Also my mock-up made it in 👀

I went back and forth each design I made trying to up each previous attempt I constructed, or going for a complete different approach from the previous one, all while maintaining into account what I required that room for, and keeping in mind how many characters and objects there'd be in that area

A huge part of it was putting a puzzle together and studying a lot on Jack Lawrence's background design n shape language. Most of these are in the original comic, but I noticed that they are referenced from sprite work on sonic 2 of the death egg and found that when looking for inspiration haha

With the near completion of our comic Scrapnik Island Mechanization published, I'm free to share my part of the project! (Besides my cover and credits graphics I posted early on release date) First time attempting background concept work as a character artist 🚹 lol
