I find I can get that as much from a 1 hour game as I can from any other length.

So what length of TTRPG session do YOU prefer, and why?

I loathe the extended CoC scenarios that go on into the wee small hours and and never found a Referee who can make these games engaging.

I play TTRPGs to interact with other human beings & get an adrenaline (dopamine, serotonin? I’m not an expert) buzz.

Personally I think they should switch to 1 hour games.

I am beginning to find a full 4 hour convention slot a bit of a drag to play in. I’ve developed a way to make my games run to the full 4 hour slot - especially if people are paying - but that involves a prologue scenario and….

Longer - afternoon running into evening sessions at University et al though in my experience (FIFTY years ago!) these tended to be split into two separate game sessions.

You all know I developed a range of 1 hour scenarios. Personally I don’t see why Games on Demand NEED 2 hours.

5 or 6 hours - late night Call of Cthulhu scenario at conventions run by Referees who think bigger is better.

What’s the ”right” length for a TTRPG session?

My experiences of TTRPG sessions run from 1 to 72 hours.

My empirical experiences are:

1 hour short demo games.
2 hours “Games on Demand”
3 hours where convention Referees and conventions have become experienced (a bit jaded?)…

TSR’s designers understood the assignment better than us. Design a good product to sell rather than a good game to play.
