Me too! For me, it's about freedom and rights more than anything else.
Maybe I get crackling audio sometimes because of some driver bug. Maybe some software/hardware just doesn't work at all.
But I don't care. My OS is mine! It's not filming my screen or shoving some AI shit down my throat.
Arch (btw)
I wouldn't recommend it for a normal user, but for my autism level it's *perfect*
As I said before, the only major missing feature now for the Criware portion of things is aax -> awb mapping.
I've started work on implementing this, but nothing to show yet.
It's a major pain in the ass for several reasons that are difficult to explain. That's why progress is slow.
AISAC conversion is functioning correctly(?) with volume, pitch, low & high bandpass cutoffs, and bus send graphs.
You can hear the effects of the AISACs on the music when I boost, and when I go underwater.
The music seems to be converting "perfectly" now, unless there's some subtle issues I'm not noticing (if you hear something wrong with it please lmk)
The SFX volume is obviously converting wrong, don't know why yet. Rings, springs, dash panels, etc. are mute. And trick sounds are too loud. Will fix
Here's the current state of the Gens 2024 mod loader.
In this video I'm using all csbs from the Gens 2011 "Sonic Unleashed Jason Griffith Voice v4.0" mod by brianuuu, and clean csbs & cpks for the music (SNG00_SYS, SNG02_CPZ, and SNG18_PAM).
SFX volume is wrong lmao, will fix

It's probably a ways off, but I'll let you know!
Lots of bug fixes and implementation of CSB features which don't have a noticeable effect yet, but are necessary for some mods to function.
And I've planned out and started implementing the aax -> awb mapping I mentioned, which is only major missing feature left for the Criware upgrading.
Japan! I went on a "big crazy dream trip" for a month and met up with some hedge-dev bros, who also went but only for a couple weeks. It was an awesome experience and I wish I could have stayed even longer
Beyond that I need to implement conversion for 32-bit Mirage files to 64-bit, and upgrading of Havok files.
Havok is going to be fun™ but *hopefully* not too crazy difficult
The main thing holding it back right now is I need to have a mapping between the names of the aax files within the cpks in Gens 2011 to entries in the corresponding Gens 2024 awb (or something like that lmao, there's a few different ways it could be done).
The conversion from csb -> acb is "done"
So this meant I had to setup cross-compiling for Windows lmao
It was easier than I expected I'm ngl, wine got seriously good
So far since resuming development I've fixed two bugs which were a pain to figure out, and implemented corrected handling of AISAC normalization ranges
UPDATE: I'm working on the Gens 2024 mod loader again.
My life's chaos has been... controlled (for now).
Settled back in to life in the US, got sick/recovered twice, and bought a new PC for myself, finally replacing my PC from 2014!
This new machine is all linux because FUCK windows 11, holy shit
"But why can't GitHub just add a big green download button?"
But why can't you *literally* just READ ?!
How the hell can you come to the conclusion that developers (who put 1000s of hours into this for free) are egotistical unreasonable shitheads for asking you to just read?!
This mindset is the same reason AI is replacing our humanity
People are willingly giving it all up, because doing things themselves is just too hard.
They'd rather give their souls to some evil mega corp than spend 15 minutes following instructions a friend wrote for them
"We need to improve tech literacy!" - no, that's the symptom, not the problem.
These people are tech illiterate *because* they absolutely REFUSE to read or to think.
If you handed them a "for dummies" book with big pictures they would say "fuck you! I'm not reading all that"
Screenshot of a tweet reading "if I have a problem and you direct me to a github link go fuck yourself", quoting another tweet which reads "that one trans programmer friend", and which has an image attached. The attached image depicts an angry woman saying "I wish there was an easy way to download Youtube videos!!", alongside a nerdy woman who jumps to help. She excitedly holds up a sign reading the URL to a (fictional) GitHub repository, and says "I can help!!! Just follow this GitHub Link and...", only to be cut off by the angry woman, now featuring an extremely smug grin, who dismissively pushes her sign aside and says "I am not doing that shit."
We're doomed as a species
This gif is literally what they would do
guys can you imagine if there was a YouTube Rewind 2025 ???
They'd have jacksepticeye doing the six seven while markiplier is dressed as tung tung tung sahur
And then Jack Black would come out and he'd be all like "I... am STEVE! Chicken Jockey!!!!" 🤩🤯
(My mental health is in severe decline)
I hope so too, I want to listen to it again! I like parts of the Superstars OST as well, bridge island definitely being amongst the best tracks. This is an awesome remix! If memory serves, the version Jun played was closer to the original than this, except the lead was "Jun-styled" guitar
They did! Jun played it on guitar with, as he described it, a bit of an "Adventure taste". There were less synths and such and it was a more natural sound. It sounded more like how I would have preferred the Superstars OST, to be honest. It was cool!
I got to go to SONIC MUSIC EXPERIENCE today in Osaka !!!
It was amazing finally being able to watch both Tomoya Ohtani and Jun Senoue perform live! Those two are childhood heroes of mine! #SonicMusicEXP
In Kyoto I heard a Japanese woman say "siixx sevennn" to who I'm assuming was her daughter and the kid laughed and repeated it,, it's so over, global brainrot .
I knew it! Anime is real!!!
The Cri utf/csb/acb/cpk/awb code is on the HedgeLib repo, and the mod loader code is on the HE1ML repo
All of it is in a very unfinished, as-is state. Building the HE1ML code mighe be a pain atm. It requires latest HedgeLib and libRad
I committed the source code for everything I have so far before I left, so feel free to contribute yourself!
Thanks man!! I've been thinking about it for so long now that it stopped feeling real. It's finally slowly hitting me, like, holy shit, this is actually happening. Never flown before so I'm nervous, but, really excited!
Hey! According to Skyth, the game uses modern Havok container formats (2024 tagfiles), but with Havok 2010 classes. So, the plan is to write our own code to convert just the container formats from 2010 packfiles to 2024 tagfiles, leaving the actual data as-is. We shouldn't need Havok libs for that
A meme captioned "Being 25" which depicts a person walking down an arrow that branches out into three different possible paths. The path curving right is labeled "doing a masters", the path going forward is labeled "Autism diagnosis". The path curving left is labeled "Japan trip". Additionally, there is another path which was added to the arrow via a poorly-done image edit, labeled "substance abuse".
someone sent this to me 💀
