It's a half-joke about Rain World's insanely complicated advanced movement mechanics that basically allow you to become as a God in the game world, but you actually have to sit down and practice these things to execute them on command, much like you need to sit down and practice fighting games.

Rain World is a fighting game/survival platformer where if you don't want to put in the 100+ hours of practice at getting good at a fighting game you can just focus on slow exploration and survival through skill at platforming and being observant of the environment around you.

With Rivulet and Spearmaster they give the slugcats very powerful abilities, and then crank enemy spawns and difficulty up to eleven to compensate...

BUT THEN ALSO there are sections which remove those abilities or even when they're a *liability*... but the enemy spawns are still absurdly high.

I know I'm gonna feel like I'm just being salty and rude towards the game and delete these again soon but fuck me if it doesn't feel like they just did not get any feedback from average players on this stretch of the game.

This would all be fine except Saint is locked behind beating Spearmaster

Multiplying the amount of enemies multiplies the opportunities for players to encounter unfair or even just unfun deaths or progression, because there's so many enemies that even winning isn't fun because it's an absolute slog to do.

Spearmaster enemy encounter is like an owlcat game: moremoremore

and this is the easy part of the campaign where I actually get to use spearmaster's full combat capabilities for 50% of the campaign they're severely nerfed by the nature of their quest.

This is just not fun. This does not pass muster as an official product that you pay for and not a mod.

Like I can do this in the base game regions, no problem at all feeding and staying alive.

But as soon as I get into the Downpour exclusive regions I'm stuck at minimum karma and can't progress at all through the sheer wall of enemies in every. fucking. screen.

This is not difficult, this is unfair

I'm only at the underhang and I'm already ready to just fucking stop because Spearmaster is such ridiculous bullshit. Infinite spears does not help against the sheer amount of enemy spawns, it is ridiculous beyond all belief.

I think Subscribestar is useful in that it makes a very standard walkback tactic more obvious. Bluesky did the same thing about it's ToS changes ("nothing is changing, we're just clarifying").

What platforms do is introduce new restrictions, say "no we didn't" and then just leave it in limbo.

For what it's worth, the changes around anthro characters change nothing at all about anything I've written about my own decisions. It's still a violation of Subscribestar's rules for me to link to the platform.

I still think Downpour is worth it because Rain World is Just That Good, but if you need dev tools or mods just to get through them then I don't blame you at all. Just using tools to get yourself back to where you died so you don't have to fight the same 800 lizards for the 5th time is such a relief

I get that these started out as mods, but they are being sold as an official product, and Downpour does not have the polish of a finished product - it feels in almost every way like a mod still.

Replaying the base game and playing/replaying Watcher make the design differences very apparent.

Even if you want to say that it isn't bullshit, the leap in difficulty between Survivor and Gourmand - much less Gourmand and Rivulet/Spearmaster - is way too severe.

It also feels like they thought "well, they are short campaigns, so we'll just make them harder to make them take longer."

And you are making dozens of decisions a room in downpour on how to handle the combat and the platforming (often at the same time).

Rain World can be unwinnable at times because of how enemies semi-randomly wander between rooms. Increasing the enemy spawns increases the chance of that happening.

It really feels like they simply didn't know how to balance difficulty around the new Slugcat's abilities, so they just didn't balance it at all. There is so little consideration given to how having this many enemies creates frequently unwinnable situations. A single mistake usually means death.

Rain World is hard because you are a prey animal that is barely equipped to survive, let alone combat predators, but the predators are not so numerous as to be a CONSTANT issue.

Downpour is hard because they took enemy spawns and cranked them up to 11 so it's just combatcombatcombatcombatcombat

AND YES PEOPLE HAVE KINKS YOU WONT LIKE OR AGREE WITH.

The babyfur or snuff artist isn't hurting you, leave em the fuck alone. And don't you try to censor them or those same fucking laws will come for your "normie" shit too.

They're also similar in that they need to take a serious look at themselves, understand just how morally-decayed they need to be to have those kinds of priorities, and grow a fucking spine.
