Oh I completely forgot this was released this yesterday. Just snagged the bundle with Tarotplane.

A particular recurring theme is the danger of herd mentality, blindly following the masses, falling for populism or charismatic leaders regardless of their political orientation.
Oh yeah. I love the art of Pogo, but the stories or gags tend to stay out of my limited grasp of English.
Bommel tends to stay away from outright referencing current politics, but tend to address the general moods or emotions at the time.
For this #CDFriday, Zipper's 80's Extravaganza presents Howard Jones crossing the line in 1989 from 80's synthpop to a more introspective and mature fare. And pretty successfully too imo.
"The Organ Grinder," the latest image in my series of "Animal Acts!" Oil on panel, 11" x 14," the original painting has SOLD to a private collector but Studio prints are available of this image in 2 sizes:

What won't help is that the language in the original comics (the ones with the text below the images) is rather idiosyncratic and at times complex. These stories came in the guise of a children's comic, but in truth they are usually social and politial satire aimed at adults.
Nice to see Captain Beyond in there! :-)
First up for my #CDFriday. ^_^
The beautiful and emotive Bear Creek by Camp of Wolves and a fun collection of songs from @woodfordhalse.bandcamp.com's main guy. :-)
Well the town is called Den Bommel, not Den Tom Poes. ;-) But there is a statue somewhat hidden on the roof of a garage in Rotterdam. It's pointing towards the birthplace of Maarten Toonder.
(It's not broken, it's coated in ceramic tiles).
Perhaps it just wasnΒ΄t seen as interesting by Toonder. Bommel never had a love interest either until the very last story.
Meanwhile, I just found out that in a tiny Dutch village called Den Bommel, you can find this handsome chap.
Could very well be. :-) You know, I donΒ΄t think I've ever seen any of his relatives in any of the comics I've read.
He looks like a sweet old uncle bear about to tell one of his tall tales. :-)
A lovely soundtrack for these sunny spring afternoons.

Spotted during a walk in a grey and rainy Dordrecht, the Netherlands.
That's adorable! You look so cozy. ^__^
An old schoolhouse from the 1950's in Bergen op Zoom, the Netherlands. The cool mid-century modernist mosaic on the gable really caught my eye when I cycled past.

Peaches for free.
90's architecture in the Netherlands was pretty much pastels and horizontal stripes. ^_^

It happened to that series by Michel Plessix I also bought. I had the first three books, then nothing. And then suddenly that wonderful hard-cover omnibus out of nowhere.
I guess we're lucky to be so close to France and Belgium.
Ah Haarlem! Ik dacht al, dat lettertype komt mij bekend voor. :-)
It's the problem here as well with most comics translated into Dutch. You start on a nice series and then half way through it's cancelled because it's not popular enough. Thankfully Blacksad is quite a success here, so I won't have to learn Spanish in order to read it. ^_^
I only found out about it recently myself. It's fun! :-) Mind you, Rinaldo is no Guarnido. So no hyper detailed water colour. But he has a very nice and enjoyable style of his own.
A little comic book haul from yesterday. ^_^ I was pleasantly surprised to see an integral hard-cover release of Michel Plessix' Le Vent Dans Les Saules. I love his art and it's a wonderful expansion on the story of the Wind in the Willows (of which he also made a beautiful comic version).
Now there's a song that requires you to remove fragile items from shelves before you play it.
Going to church on #stunday: St Gertrude in Bergen op Zoom, the Netherlands.
A building with a tragic history of destruction by wars, fires, and neglect, but still possessing a nice atmosphere and offering plenty of architectural details from all periods of its history.
