one step i missed is that you'll need to set this new mod at a higher priority than the body mod's but that might have been obvious lol

Alternatively you can use Advanced Customizations in Glamourer to adjust the skin color but it might not be as clean.

Something that counters the base skintone like blue or green.

You can crank the Value (marked by the arrow) above the max too, to really overpower the underlying color.

You can do this in just penumbra!
